Kien Giang: Phu Quoc develops smart city

According to consultants, the draft Project "Overall development of Phu Quoc to 2040, vision to 2050" orients Phu Quoc to develop according to the model of a sea and island tourism city - services - finance - technology.

The project aims to develop Phu Quoc city into a smart, ecological, prosperous island city based on tourism, resorts, and trade - services with identity, high quality, regional and world stature; develop the economy along with improving people's lives, in harmony with preserving and promoting historical and cultural relics, preserving marine and island biodiversity and ensuring national defense and security.

With 3 pillars of development: tourism with indigenous cultural colors, creating its own mark on regional and international scale; trade - service - logistics; creative, technological, ecological urban areas.

Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Nhan requested that, before May 1, relevant departments, branches and Phu Quoc city study and submit written comments.

The project proposes a number of policy mechanisms on tourism, trade, high-quality services and smart, ecological urban development such as: tax exemption and reduction policies; electronic visa issuance, visa exemption; attracting high-quality human resources; organizing the government apparatus; investment management; finance, state budget; management of planning, urban, resources and environment; management of science and technology, innovation, creativity, etc.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Nhan emphasized that building mechanisms and policies is a decisive and important factor for Phu Quoc to develop quickly and strongly, in line with trends and practical needs in the coming time. New mechanisms and policies need to be outstanding, in line with Phu Quoc's potential, have local characteristics, create a unique mark, and be competitive with the region and the world.

Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Nhan requested relevant departments, agencies and Phu Quoc city to study and submit written comments and proposals for mechanisms and policies for Phu Quoc development until 2040, with a vision to 2050, before May 1. The Department of Finance will synthesize, collect expert opinions, and advise on completing the project before June 15 for approval by competent authorities.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province also requested that the development of projects and mechanisms and policies for Phu Quoc city must be open, convenient, and create motivation for rapid development. Ensure the attraction of large, high-quality investment resources; shorten the time for implementing planning and investing in projects, appointing strategic investors in accordance with the law; create an attractive environment with sustainable sources of income in Phu Quoc city.
