Localities organize inspections, checks, and strictly handle violations in the trading of antiviral drugs for treating seasonal flu and drugs for treating influenza A, especially violations of regulations on drug price management.
Controlling the price of flu medicine
Faced with the increasing demand for antiviral drugs, the phenomenon of price increases and the sale of antiviral drugs to treat influenza without a doctor's prescription, this afternoon, February 12, Deputy Director of the Department of Drug Administration Nguyen Thanh Lam signed and issued an official dispatch to health departments and hospitals under the Ministry of Health, requesting urgent implementation of work to ensure drug supply and control prices of influenza treatment drugs, especially for drugs to treat influenza A (Tamiflu and drugs containing the active ingredient oseltamivir).
Tamiflu and drugs containing the active ingredient oseltamivir to treat influenza are only sold and used with a doctor's prescription.
The Drug Administration of Vietnam requests health departments to organize inspections, checks, and strictly handle violations in the trading of antiviral drugs used to treat seasonal flu and drugs to treat influenza A, especially violations of regulations on drug price management (declaring prices incorrectly, not posting drug prices, selling at higher prices than listed prices); strictly handle cases of trading in drugs of unknown origin, selling prescription drugs without a doctor's prescription, and taking advantage of the epidemic to unreasonably increase drug prices.
Drug retail establishments must strictly comply with regulations on prescription drug sales, be responsible for fully instructing people on the use of drugs according to doctors' instructions and instructions for drug use to ensure safety and effectiveness; fully comply with regulations on drug price management, and must not take advantage of the epidemic situation to speculate, hoard goods and push up drug prices for profit.
A representative of the Drug Administration Department said that according to current regulations, acts of taking advantage of and increasing selling prices for personal gain will be subject to administrative penalties with fines ranging from 50 to 80 million VND for individuals; the fine is doubled for organizations.
In addition, organizations and individuals who commit these violations are also forced to remedy the consequences, specifically, to return to customers the amount of money they have profited from the administrative violation.
Providing drugs in accordance with the contract signed with treatment units under the Ministry of Health, the Drug Administration Department is requested to proactively ensure adequate and timely supply of drugs to treat seasonal influenza, especially drugs to treat influenza A, to avoid drug shortages at the unit; strictly implement regulations on purchasing, selling drugs and managing drug prices at retail establishments within the premises of medical examination and treatment facilities.
The Drug Administration also directed manufacturing and trading establishments importing drugs to treat seasonal influenza, including drugs to treat influenza A, to proactively and urgently plan the production and import of drugs to ensure supply for treatment; and to implement drug supply contracts with medical examination and treatment establishments according to the signed bidding results.
