Inspection of anti-IUU fishing work at Lach Hoi Fishing Port

On the morning of September 18, Comrade Cao Van Cuong, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Steering Committee on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and the working delegation inspected the anti-IUU fishing work at Lach Hoi Fishing Port (Sam Son City).

At Lach Hoi Fishing Port, the working group directly inspected the compliance with legal regulations on combating IUU fishing for a number of newly arrived ships preparing to leave the port to exploit seafood.

Through inspection, the working group requested the Fisheries Sub-Department to work with each ship owner who lacks procedural documents, classify fishing vessels that are onshore, fishing vessels that are not qualified to participate in exploitation, and hand them over to the People's Committees at the commune level, and coastal Border Guard Stations to closely monitor the anchorage location. At the same time, coordinate with coastal Border Guard Stations and related forces to verify and handle fishing vessels with a length of 15m or more that have lost connection to the voyage monitoring device (GSHT) for more than 6 months, fishing vessels that have lost connection at sea for more than 10 days; organize guidance for "3 no's" and "2 no's" fishing vessel owners to register.

Thanh Hoa Fishing Port Management Board coordinates with functional forces to increase patrols and control at sea, inlets, beaches, and fishing ports, resolutely not allowing fishing vessels to operate at sea without sufficient procedures, documents, and equipment as prescribed; handle fishing vessels violating regulations on combating IUU fishing. The member sectors of the Provincial Steering Committee on Combating IUU Fishing develop detailed plans and prepare dossiers, documents, and other necessary conditions to ensure timely provision of dossiers as required by the Inspection Delegation of the European Commission and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development .

The Provincial Border Guard Command deployed the Peak Plan to combat IUU fishing in Thanh Hoa province.

In the working program, at Sam Son Border Guard Station, the Provincial Border Guard Command deployed the Peak Plan to combat IUU fishing in Thanh Hoa province. Accordingly, during the implementation period of the plan from September 15 to October 30, 2024, the Coastal Border Guard forces will coordinate with relevant forces and coastal localities to concentrate forces and means to implement solutions to prevent and combat IUU fishing.
