Dr. Nguyen Van Toan, Department of Orthopedics and Burns, Dong Nai Children's Hospital, said that on March 7, the patient was transferred from Long Thanh Regional General Hospital in a state of having many facial injuries, skin and muscle peeling off the left leg, traumatic brain injury, coma, pale skin and mucous membranes, and low blood pressure.
The patient was quickly given intravenous fluids, oxygen via endotracheal intubation, sedation, and vasopressor drugs. X-ray results showed that the patient had a large epidural hemorrhage in the forehead, pulmonary contusion, and extensive skin and muscle loss in the left calf.
Determining that this was a very serious and critical case, the hospital put the entire hospital on red alert, actively resuscitated the patient, and transferred him to the emergency operating room. In the operating room, two surgical teams had to perform two tasks at the same time: opening the skull to remove the hematoma and treating the wound in the patient's lower leg. After two days on a ventilator, the patient regained consciousness and continued to receive care.
By the afternoon of April 4, the patient's brain wound had healed well, and the wound on his lower leg was also progressing well, and he will receive a skin graft next week.
According to Dr. Toan, the most difficult thing in this case is that the disease is very serious, progresses quickly, and when the child was admitted to the hospital, there was no family member. Therefore, doctors from many departments including: emergency, intensive care, anti-poisoning, anesthesia, neurosurgery, orthopedic trauma, general surgery had to consult very urgently to come up with the fastest and best treatment plan for the patient. Not only that, during the surgery, the large hematoma in the forehead area pushed the brain down a lot, the wound lost skin and muscle in the popliteal region, the calf was large, the toes were pale, and the instep pulse could not be detected, causing many difficulties during the surgery.
TA said that on March 7, on the way home from school, he was sitting on the back of a friend's electric bike. While crossing the street, due to poor visibility, the electric bike collided with a truck. TA fell and hit his head on the road, and was dragged a distance by the truck, leading to a serious accident.
