French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said security would be "significantly increased" for tonight's match between Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona in Paris. Police will also be heavily deployed for other Champions League quarter-final matches, including Atletico Madrid's clash with Borussia Dortmund in the Spanish capital.

IS is said to have threatened all Champions League quarter-final matches, including the first leg between PSG and Barcelona at the Parc des Princes. The terrorist group has also called on supporters to repeat the attack on the Stade de France in November 2015.

Spanish police deployed more than 2,000 officers to ensure security for the match. Additional security measures included stricter security checks, increased police presence at the stadium and surrounding areas, and drone surveillance.

The matches between Arsenal and Bayern Munich and Real Madrid hosting defending champions Manchester City have also just taken place with tight security.

European football's governing body UEFA said all matches will go ahead despite the threat. UEFA is working closely with the authorities at the venues to ensure the safety of all involved.

"Who is not worried or concerned about terrorist threats? I hope they are just threats and nothing will happen," said PSG coach Luis Enrique.

The threat from IS has increased across Europe in recent weeks, particularly after a deadly terrorist attack at a Moscow theatre late last month.
