Hoi An city area will form 3 wards and 1 commune

On April 21, the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee held a conference to discuss and approve a new naming plan for 88 communes and wards in the province, replacing the plan issued under Resolution 45 dated April 18, 2025 of the Provincial Party Committee, which was announced to collect public opinions.

According to a report from the Department of Home Affairs, after organizing a public consultation according to the plan issued in Resolution 45 of the Provincial Party Committee on April 19 and 20, 99.02% of voters representing households across the province participated in giving their opinions; of which 97.66% of voters agreed with the commune-level arrangement and 98.52% of voters agreed with the merger of Quang Nam province with Da Nang city.

At the conference, delegates discussed, gave comments and agreed not to name new communes and wards by the name of the district plus the ordinal numbers 1, 2, 3... or by the east, west, south, north... directions as proposed under Resolution 45 dated April 18, 2025 of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee. Instead, use names associated with historical and cultural relics that are representative of each region.

Note that Hoi An city area will have 3 wards (Hoi An, Thanh Chau, Thanh Ha) and Tan Hiep commune.

Concluding the conference, Provincial Party Secretary Luong Nguyen Minh Triet requested the Department of Home Affairs to guide localities to continue to immediately collect voters' opinions on the new names of commune-level administrative units agreed upon by the conference, and soon complete the next steps to submit to the province for synthesis and completion of the project to submit to the Provincial People's Council at the 31st Session.

Immediately after the Conference, the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee issued Resolution No. 46, agreeing to adjust the names of the (new) commune-level administrative units of Quang Nam province. The Provincial People's Committee was assigned to collect public opinions, ensuring submission to the Provincial People's Council on April 26, 2025; and complete the dossier to submit to the Government before May 1, 2025.
