The current difficulty of Bu Gia Map National Park (Binh Phuoc province) in implementing wildlife rescue and caring for rare wild animals to release them into the wild is that the funding source is not timely and the scale of captivity is not sufficient.
Since the beginning of the year, Bu Gia Map National Park, Bu Gia Map district has received more than 50 wild animals of 13 different species, all of which are rare species.
The current difficulty of the garden in implementing rescue and animal care for release into the wild is that the funding source is not timely and the scale of captivity is not sufficient.
Since the end of 2023, Bu Gia Map National Park has built a budget for the rescue of wild animals collected and received from the people and cared for before returning them to nature.
However, up to now, this budget has not been allocated, Bu Gia Map National Park must make an advance from other revenue sources of the agency to implement it.
Mr. Tran Van Truong, Deputy Director of the Center for Propaganda, Tourism and Rescue Conservation of Bu Gia Map National Park said: “Due to lack of operating funds, we feel very guilty when we have to ride motorbikes carrying cages like smuggling wildlife. As a result, wildlife rescue work has not met the planned targets set at the beginning of the year.”
The existing cage system of the Center for Propaganda, Tourism and Rescue Conservation of Bu Gia Map National Park (Binh Phuoc province) is not yet able to accommodate large animals and many animals at the same time.
Wild animals that are rescued and cared for before being returned to the wild must have different types of food. Due to lack of funds, caretakers sometimes have to buy food in short supply to supplement the animals' nutrition.
Mr. Le Van Cuong, a wildlife care and training staff at Bu Gia Map National Park, said: “The staff is limited, and the food of each wild animal species is different, so even though we try to find it in the wild, we still cannot provide enough nutrition for the animals, especially on rainy and stormy days.
In addition, the center's existing cage system cannot accommodate large animals or many animals at once, so we are very sad. That greatly affects the rescue and care of wild animals to return them to nature."
Wildlife caretakers and trainers are constantly searching for food in the wild to meet the needs of rescued wildlife.
Rescued wild animals that have not been kept in captivity for a long time only need to have their health checked before they can be released back into the wild; if they are injured, they need to be treated until the wound heals before being released again. Most animals that have been kept in captivity for a long time will lose their natural instincts and need a lot of time and environment to recover. To do this, there must be a suitable system of cages and training areas. However, at the rescue center, there is currently only 1 cage for reptiles, 1 cage for birds, 2 cages for gibbons, 1 cage for langurs, 1 cage for small carnivores and 3 cages for primates.
Many types of food need nutritional supplements for animals, so officers have to buy them in short supply.
To increase the center's capacity to receive rescue animals, it is necessary to build more rescue cages and training areas for specialized species.
Mr. Truong added: “With such a situation, we have had to delay many occasions and rescues, which has caused negative feelings for wildlife lovers when reporting the news. Furthermore, wildlife rescue work must be carried out smoothly, not in batches. We hope to have timely funding to effectively organize rescue work, care for and train wild animals to release them into the wild.”
Preserving rare animals is a very meaningful job, contributing to spreading the spirit of loving nature, protecting wildlife, and preserving the current and future environment.
The park management board hopes that organizations and individuals with information about rescue and conservation of wild animals can contact the following address: Rescue, Conservation and Development Center of Creatures of Bu Gia Map National Park, phone number: 0978.404.739.
