Phu Tho Provincial Police have just invited a number of social media account owners to come in for questioning for posting and sharing false information related to the dike break in Yen Lap, storms and floods in Ha Hoa, and the collapse of Phong Chau bridge...
Similarly, on September 10, Hai Duong Provincial Police also summoned 5 people for spreading false information about "Hai Duong dike break" on social media.
These are just examples, because on September 9, many other social media accounts posted and shared false information about dike breaks, flooding, and severe damage in localities such as Quang Ninh, Thai Nguyen... causing panic among people across the country.
This makes it very difficult for mainstream media to constantly verify and "correct" incidents to reassure public opinion.
These account owners need to be "invited to work" and dealt with severely to deter and set an example for others.
While many localities are making every effort to deal with the problems caused by storms, landslides, and flash floods, causing great loss of life and property, acts of spreading false information not only cause public panic but also seriously affect flood and storm prevention work and security and order.
Besides, while people across the country are joining hands to help the North with practical actions, from donating materials and money to directly participating in rescue and relief work, there are people lacking awareness, spreading false information, causing more anxiety for the community.
The act of posting and sharing false information in this context not only violates the law but also demonstrates irresponsibility to society.
It is worth mentioning that when invited to work by the authorities, most of the account owners justified that when using social networks, they saw many people posting and thought it was real information, so they posted and shared it.
These "invitations to work" cases, along with the strict handling that follows, are also lessons to raise awareness among a segment of the population when using social networks.
Not spreading false information or rumors, but calmly verifying information from official media sources before sharing, is also a way to actively contribute to overcoming the consequences of natural disasters.
Just not spreading false information is a way to share with our fellow countrymen who are struggling day and night to cope with the floods!
