As a former chemistry student at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (HCMC) and a national excellent student, Ho Thao Nguyen was admitted directly to Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. Nguyen has just completed her university program and graduated with honors with a score of 9.16/10. Not only that, she also achieved the title of excellent student for 4 consecutive years. Sharing about her learning method, Nguyen said: “Each individual will be suitable for different learning methods. For me, it is to focus on listening to lectures and trying to ask questions right in class so that I can ask the teachers to answer. At home, I read more books and documents to better understand the subject content. Most importantly, I have a group of friends to review and systematize knowledge before each exam.”

Despite such an impressive academic record, Nguyen shared that he did not plan to graduate with honors, fearing that setting high goals would put more pressure on himself. “What I always aim for is simply to try to understand what I have learned. The score will partly reflect whether I have absorbed the knowledge or not and through that, adjust my learning method,” Nguyen said.

Talking about the secret to learning a foreign language well, Nguyen shared: "To learn any foreign language, we should first have the mindset of a child, meaning not being afraid of making mistakes or being judged. I have kept that spirit so that I can gradually get used to reading and speaking a language other than my mother tongue." Thanks to her good English, Nguyen has been able to read documents related to scientific research and win scholarships outside of school more easily.
