No more burning votive paper in Con Dao.

In December, 100% of the offerings and ceremonial baskets met the green criteria. Air quality measurements at Hang Duong Cemetery consistently showed good levels (AQI 39).

According to information from the Con Dao National Monument Conservation Center ( Ba Ria - Vung Tau province), from January 1, 2025, the "Green Offering Basket" campaign - saying no to the burning of votive paper offerings - will enter phase 4, implemented simultaneously 365 days a year at all historical sites throughout the district.

Locals and tourists have gradually become accustomed to not burning votive paper and bringing green offering baskets to Con Dao.

"Green Offering Basket" is a program implemented to say no to the practice of burning votive paper offerings at historical sites throughout the district. The goal is to reduce hazardous waste that pollutes the environment, contributing to the realization of the objectives of the research and application project on circular economy for sustainable socio-economic development in Con Dao district, giai đoạn 2022-2025, with a vision to 2030.

The green offering basket does not use paper offerings, styrofoam, plastic bags, plastic bottles, or disposable plastic trays. The basket is compact and dignified, with a height, length, and width not exceeding 50cm.

The campaign was launched with a well-structured roadmap starting on October 1, 2023, and divided into four phases.

Phase 1, from October 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024, focuses on raising awareness and encouraging people and tourists to support the policy of limiting offerings and burning of votive paper when visiting historical sites and relics.

Phase 2 involved implementing the "Green Offering Basket" initiative on Saturdays (from July 2024 to the end of September 2024). As a result of Phase 2, the Con Dao National Heritage Conservation Center reported that 98.38% of the offering baskets met the "Green Offering Basket" criteria.

Phase 3 is the "Green Basket Week," scheduled for the first week of each month in October, November, and December 2024. During this week, from December 2nd to 8th, 100% of the offerings and baskets met the criteria for a "green basket." Air quality measurements at Hang Duong Cemetery consistently showed good results (AQI 39).
