Showing off is a personal right
Reader Hoang Lan expressed her opinion: "If people have something to show off, something to feel proud of, then let them show off. Everyone has a life to live. Whoever likes to show off, let them. Whoever likes to scrutinize, let them. That's a personal matter."
Sharing the same opinion, reader Phan Truong Thinh believes that doing anything on social networks is everyone's freedom, because social networks in the world today are an environment "open 24/7, 365 days for everyone".
Each participant only needs to comply with current Vietnamese law if they are living in Vietnam, especially with the regulations of that social network.
Many opinions say that showing off is a need for recognition that everyone has. And if you show off the results of your efforts and hard work, it will also help motivate others.
Reader Phuong Phu Cong commented: "Showing off is good, to let people around know and try harder. That way society can develop strongly and become rich!".
However, many people believe that "too much of anything is not good", especially when "showing off" too much.
Reader Nguyen Tuan Loc left a comment: "A movie must have some drama when watching. A one-dimensional movie will make it hard for anyone to sit and watch it until the end. Whether you want to show off or not is up to you."
Reader Crystal Vo thinks that showing off too much is not good, but it also has benefits: "Boyfriends/girlfriends occasionally and subtly post pictures of their lovers on social media. It's also a good way to declare "sovereignty" and avoid the situation where two-timing people can secretly date several girls at the same time. But showing off gifts should be tactful and not too much."
Meanwhile, reader Le Tien Sinh thinks that the notion that "showing off something makes you lose it easily" is incorrect. People who don't show off still lose, it's just that because they don't show off, the world doesn't know what they have or what they've lost. Therefore, this reader thinks that "show off freely".
On the other hand, this reader said: "On my Facebook, I'm fed up with people who show off their wealth and happiness all the time. At first, I just kept on wishing and all. But after a while, I got bored and didn't even want to talk. I unfriended people who weren't close to me. And if I unfriended people who were close, it would be weird, so I just stopped following them."
Don't show off your wealth anymore, focus on cultivating your mind and character to be happy.
Many readers commented that we shouldn't brag. A reader named Tam commented, "I've never heard anyone say that bragging is good."
Sharing the same opinion of "saying no to showing off", a reader named Hoa gave the reason: "I agree with the concept "The more you show off, the easier it is to lose" so I almost never post anything on social networks. I hide the good things, hide the bad things even more and deal with them myself".
Reader NH objected to showing off happiness by having a house, a car, or a bouquet of flowers for his wife made from 100 dollar bills: "Please define 'happiness'. I wonder how Taylor Swift, Mark Zuckerberg, or the Queen of England showed off their happiness when they were young?"
Reader Hong Ha's opinion is "don't show off your wealth anymore": "Intelligence and personality are what parents leave to their children. Material wealth is not lasting. If you leave it to your children without heart and vision, will it still be there in a short time?"
Stop showing off your wealth. Cars, houses, and phones are just means. Whether you are happy or not is the real issue... If you don't cultivate your mind and character, it will be difficult to have peace and happiness even if you have wealth."
A reader said that he had previously shared happiness and positive thoughts to spread life energy.
"But when I reached my sixties, I suddenly understood that I only share with the right people, with the same taste, similar circumstances, especially living conditions. You cannot change or modify the people around you, including your siblings and parents," this reader commented.
Reader Thanh Son said: "No one likes showing off. Only telling good stories and sharing good things will receive attention and bring value."
