In the past, most of the trading activities with the mainland of the people on this island depended on 5 means of civilian boats operating on the inland waterway Hai Cang - Nhon Chau.
However, since the end of March, all 5 of the above vehicles have been suspended from operation according to the decision of the Quy Nhon City People's Committee, due to not meeting the conditions for vehicle inspection and registration. The incident has caused many difficulties for the lives and socio-economic development of people on Nhon Chau Island.
According to the people of this island commune, the suspension of the ferry service has prevented the circulation of goods, seafood cannot be sent to the mainland for consumption, and many consumer goods from Quy Nhon city cannot be transported to the island. Even many families who are building houses on the island have had to temporarily stop because of lack of materials. If these goods were transported to the island by tourist canoe, the cost would be very high, beyond the people's ability to pay.
The ferry on the Hai Cang - Nhon Chau route has been temporarily suspended due to lack of inspection.
Regarding the reason for stopping the above-mentioned ferry operations, Mr. Ho Nhat Le, Chairman of Nhon Chau Commune People's Committee, said that the registration of 5 ferry operations on the Hai Cang - Nhon Chau inland waterway has expired. The owners of these vehicles applied for an extension, but because they did not meet the required conditions, the Registration Department No. 4 (under the Vietnam Register) did not agree to the extension. "The suspension of ferry operations is causing many impacts on the lives and economic development of the people on the island. The commune has reported to Quy Nhon City People's Committee to find a way to remove difficulties for Nhon Chau people," said Mr. Le.
According to Mr. Nguyen Cong Vinh, Vice Chairman of Quy Nhon City People's Committee, Quy Nhon City People's Committee has reported this incident to the Standing Committee of Quy Nhon City Party Committee, and proposed solutions to remove difficulties for people in Nhon Chau island commune affected by the temporary suspension of the ferry service. Specifically, the government plans to support qualified vehicles to temporarily operate on the Hai Cang - Nhon Chau inland waterway to serve the people.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province requested the People's Committee of Quy Nhon City to suspend the operation of all 74 inland waterway passenger transport vehicles that do not meet the requirements for vehicle inspection and registration, of which Nhon Chau commune has 5 vehicles. At the same time, the People's Committee of Quy Nhon City requested to propose a plan to purchase new vehicles and organize a suitable operational management model to serve the people's lives on the Ham Tu - Hai Minh inland waterway route and the Hai Cang - Nhon Chau route.
