Departure of the first container train of the year carrying goods from Song Than station to China

International railway transport activities between Vietnam and China have recently had very positive changes.

Transport output has grown continuously in recent years and has become a top choice for businesses of the two countries in trade.

Mr. Hoang Gia Khanh, General Director of Vietnam Railway Corporation said: Binh Duong is a province in the Southeast region, located in the Southern key economic zone.

This is also one of the most dynamically developing localities in the Southern region. Binh Duong province's transport infrastructure has been invested in relatively synchronous and modern development, connecting with means of transport by sea, road, air and rail.

Song Than International Terminal is the largest freight terminal in the South. In recent times, Binh Duong province has paid special attention to railway transport activities and has gradually participated in the export and import of goods by rail to diversify forms of transport and improve competitiveness.

The Ministry of Transport is implementing projects to upgrade and renovate Song Than station. It is expected that in the period of 2025 - 2030, after completing these projects, Song Than station's capacity will reach 3.5 million tons/year and become the largest cargo terminal in the system of railway stations in Vietnam.

The leader of Vietnam Railway Corporation said that the Government and the Prime Minister always pay attention to international transport activities by rail.

Right in the first days of the new year, Vietnam Railways Corporation held a ceremony to launch the first international train to export agricultural products from Song Than station to Zhengzhou, Henan, China.

The container train carrying all agricultural products exported to China consists of 21 wagons, including 9 refrigerated containers carrying fruits and food. The time from Song Than to Zhengzhou is expected to be 9-10 days. In the immediate future, the Railway industry will organize one intermodal train per week.

Many Vietnamese and Chinese enterprises attended the launching ceremony of the first international train in 2024. The leader of Vietnam Railways Corporation said that currently, international international transport activities have reached about 30 thousand TEUs (each TEU is equivalent to a 20-foot container).

Goods from Binh Duong and neighboring provinces have been gathered at Song Than Station to go to Yen Vien and Giap Bat stations (Hanoi) and then transferred to international trains to China and transit through third countries (Russia, Mongolia, Central Asia and Europe) through Dong Dang border gates (Lang Son province) and Lao Cai border gates.

After the infrastructure serving logistics activities is completed and meets all requirements, Vietnam Railways Corporation plans to exploit Song Than international transit station to organize specialized trains running directly from Song Than station to China, transiting to third countries and vice versa.
