Giving gifts to union members and workers in difficult circumstances on the occasion of Workers' Month

Union member Ngo Thi Kieu (NV Apparel Co., Ltd.) is a single mother, raising a child in grade 9. She currently has no home and lives with her mother and her brother's family. The house is made of wood and is dilapidated. Ms. Kieu's current salary of about 5 million VND/month covers living expenses and her child's education. Recently, her uncle gave her land, and the union has considered giving her priority to support the cost of building a new house.

In a similar situation, member Nguyen Kim Tuyen (Universal Apparel Co., Ltd.) is a single mother, shouldering the family's financial burden while living conditions are extremely difficult. Ms. Tuyen takes care of her mother who has diabetes, tuberculosis, and is in very poor health, and her youngest son, 16 years old, is still in school. Her house was built on land given to her by her husband's uncle, with an area of ​​only about 28 square meters, roofed with corrugated iron, and is now seriously degraded, with holes and leaks in many places, and the kitchen roof has been blown off by wind and rain...

Union member Nguyen Thi Phuong (An Giang Samho Company Limited) is the breadwinner of her family, with a salary of 5.8 million VND/month. All living expenses depend on her salary, because her husband's job is unstable, he does whatever he is hired to do, and her children are waiting for jobs. The house that Ms. Phuong's family is living in was provided by the State in the resettlement area of ​​Hoa Binh Thanh commune (Chau Thanh district) for more than 15 years, and is now in disrepair.

The above 3 cases with housing difficulties are among 6 cases that the Provincial Federation of Labor awarded funding to support the construction of new Union Shelters at the launching ceremony of Workers' Month 2025. In addition, 160 gifts were given to union members and workers in difficult circumstances and occupational diseases, worth 1 million VND/gift (300,000 VND gift, 700,000 VND cash). The Provincial Industrial Parks Union also awarded 150 gifts (out of a total of 300 gifts) to union members and workers in difficult circumstances and occupational diseases, worth 500,000 VND/gift.

Chairman of the An Giang Provincial Federation of Labor Chau Van Ly emphasized that over the past 13 years, Workers' Month has truly become a series of festivals for workers nationwide, with many specific activities aimed at workers. Thereby, it has received deep attention from Party committees at all levels, authorities, and employers; the response of a large number of union members, workers, civil servants, and laborers; and positive recognition from society.

Trade unions at all levels have stepped up the implementation of many activities to care for and protect the legitimate and legal rights and interests of workers; improve working conditions, build harmonious, stable and progressive labor relations in enterprises. Along with that, affirm the role, position and contribution of the working class in the cause of industrialization, modernization of the country and international integration.

Since 2017, the Prime Minister has announced that May of each year is the Month of Action for Occupational Safety and Hygiene. Since then, the month of action has been an opportunity to raise awareness and compliance with laws on occupational safety and hygiene. At the same time, it has promoted the improvement of working conditions, reduced pollution of the working environment; limited occupational accidents and diseases, and provided health care for workers.

This year's Workers' Month and Action Month on Occupational Safety and Hygiene, with 6 groups of activities associated with the theme "Vietnamese Workers Pioneer Entering the New Era", "Strengthening assessment, identifying hazards and risks and proactively implementing measures to ensure occupational safety and hygiene at the workplace".

The series of diverse activities focused on caring for 2,300 union members in difficult circumstances, with a total amount of over 4.3 billion VND. Of which, gifts were given to 2,200 union members in difficult circumstances, occupational diseases, and work-related accidents, with an amount of over 1.5 billion VND; and support for the Union Shelter for 57 union members in difficult housing circumstances, with an amount of over 2 billion VND.

In May, trade unions at all levels organized the program "Creative workers, confidently entering the new era"; "May Dialogue"; forum "Party with workers - Workers with the Party"; "Thanking workers"; organized a peak month for developing union members, establishing grassroots unions; expected to develop over 2,200 new union members and establish 6 grassroots unions; introduced 228 outstanding union members for the Party to consider and admit.

Promoting the tradition and achievements, aiming at the goal of "Innovation, democracy, solidarity, development, for the interests of union members and workers; building a strong union organization, contributing to the sustainable development of An Giang province", the Provincial Federation of Labor calls on all union members, workers, civil servants, employees and unions at all levels to closely coordinate with the government, agencies, units and enterprises to promote the patriotic emulation movement, set good examples in labor, production and work. Thereby, contributing to the Party Committee, government and people in the province to successfully carry out the task of socio-economic development, building An Giang province to develop more and more, for the goal of "Rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness and civilization".
