The event attracted about 500 attendees including outstanding Vietnamese workers, representatives of trade unions and Japanese businesses recruiting Vietnamese workers.
In his opening speech, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu said that the organization of Vietnam Labor Day in Japan for the first time demonstrates the concern of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and the embassy for Vietnamese workers living and working in Japan in particular and for sending Vietnamese workers to work in Japan in general.
According to Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu, there are currently more than 430,000 Vietnamese workers living and working in Japan with residency statuses such as interns, specific skills, engineers, technicians, interpreters, etc. The majority of Vietnamese interns and workers work hard and study hard to improve their Japanese language proficiency and skills. Thanks to their hard work and the dedicated guidance and instruction of the receiving company and the management union, many Vietnamese workers have matured and become core workers of the receiving company, contributing to the development of Japanese enterprises and economy, as well as the development of cooperative and friendly relations between the two countries.
Referring to the changes in the Japanese Government's foreign worker reception policy, the Ambassador assessed that these are beneficial changes for foreign workers and Vietnamese workers, helping to better ensure the rights and legitimate interests of workers, helping foreign workers have the opportunity to develop themselves and their careers in Japan.
The Ambassador emphasized that Vietnam is standing at the threshold of a new development stage with many opportunities for economic, social and human development, so it will need skilled workers with a high sense of organization and discipline, trained and matured in developed countries such as Japan. Workers who have gone through the process of working and training in Japan will become valuable human resources for Vietnam in the new development stage, becoming a factor contributing to promoting the sustainable development of the friendship between Vietnam and Japan.
On the Japanese side, Deputy Minister of Justice Komura Masahiro said that the number of Vietnamese people residing in Japan is increasing every year, reaching about 600,000 people by the end of June 2024. Of which, the number of workers with specific skills is about 130,000 people, the number of technical interns is 200,000 people, and the number of people with residence status under technical, humanities knowledge, and international business is about 100,000 people. These numbers prove that Vietnam is an extremely important country to Japan. The representative of the Ministry of Justice emphasized that within the framework of the new Training - Work regime, Japan will strive to overcome existing problems in the Technical Intern Trainee regime such as high brokerage fees and illegal broker intervention. Japan will coordinate with sending countries, including Vietnam, to ensure a healthy working environment and promote the development of foreign human resources. The representative of the Ministry of Justice expressed his hope that the two countries will continue to cooperate closely to resolve remaining challenges so that Japan continues to be an attractive destination for Vietnamese workers.
At the Vietnam Labor Day event in Japan 2024, Deputy Minister Nguyen Ba Hoan and Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu awarded Certificates of Merit to 30 Vietnamese workers; 12 unions and 17 Japanese companies.
