The workshop is an important event, opening up new strategic directions in applying space technology to the development of the Port City.

In the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution spreading strongly across the globe, space science and technology have gone beyond the limits of the defense sector to become an important tool serving socio-economic development.

Technologies such as remote sensing, global positioning system (GPS), telecommunication satellites, low-altitude sensors, etc. are being widely applied in resource-environment management, smart agriculture, disaster monitoring, urban planning and many other essential fields.

Vietnam has recognized this trend early and is gradually implementing the Strategy for development and application of space science and technology until 2030 approved by the Prime Minister.

This is an important foundation for localities, including Hai Phong, to proactively research, apply and integrate space technology achievements into development practices.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Vinh, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Hai Phong City emphasized: “As an important industrial, seaport, logistics and marine economic center of the country, Hai Phong is facing an urgent need to access, master and effectively apply space technology. This is a key factor to serve the goals of sustainable development, improve the capacity of resource and environmental management, respond to climate change, spatial planning, develop transport infrastructure, high-tech agriculture and ensure safety for people".

That vision requires Hai Phong city to soon form an ecosystem for research, application, and training in space technology, while having policies to encourage businesses and scientific and technological organizations to participate.

Mr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Space Center spoke at the workshop.

At the workshop, experts, scientists and managers presented many in-depth discussions, providing a comprehensive picture of the potential and application directions of space technology in Vietnam in general and Hai Phong in particular.

Some prominent topics discussed include: achievements in space science and technology serving urban development; application of low-altitude space technology in environmental monitoring and natural disaster prevention; needs and orientations for training high-quality human resources in this field; prospects for public-private partnership in implementing space technology projects at the local level.

Through the workshop, Hai Phong city aims to build awareness and spread the spirit of innovation in the scientific, business and state management communities.

The application of space technology is no longer “science fiction” but has become a practical need in planning, resource monitoring, natural disaster prevention and improving people's quality of life.

From the proposals at the workshop, the city's Department of Science and Technology will coordinate with relevant agencies to develop a specific action plan to promote the integration of space technology into urban development, infrastructure, agriculture and logistics programs and projects.

At the same time, the city also aims to cooperate with research institutes, universities and technology enterprises to exploit social resources and internationalize this potential field.

In the coming time, Hai Phong needs to continue to promote its role as the country’s industrial leader, while proactively investing in science and technology. Especially space technology as a new direction to elevate the city’s position in the digital and space era.

In particular, the workshop introduced the Vega Space & Geospatial Academy - a practical training model in the field of space and geospatial, and the “Vega Cubesat” program - a model for researching and manufacturing small satellites to equip the young generation with practical space technology skills. These are important suggestions for Hai Phong to gradually form a team of space experts and engineers in the future.
