Tran Trung Kien would like to thank everyone for always following and supporting him.
Priceless assets in a simple house
These days, the small house of 11th grade student Tran Trung Kien's family in Hoa Dong commune (Tay Hoa district, Phu Yen province) is always filled with the laughter of relatives, neighbors, teachers, and friends coming to congratulate Kien on winning the first quarter of the 24th Road to Olympia with 235 points, meaning Kien is the first contestant to win a ticket to the final round of Olympia 2024.
Quickly running to get water to offer the guests, the small male student smiled brightly and kept saying "yes, sir" in response to the congratulations and inquiries.
The small, simple house was lit up by a glass cabinet full of certificates and awards. They were the result of 11 years of studying by Kien and his sister, who is now working.
Seeing us staring at the glass cabinet, Mrs. Tran Thi Bich Loan (48 years old, Kien's mother) proudly said that there were more than 200 certificates of merit kept, of which more than 100 belonged to Kien alone, the rest belonged to Kien's sister.
Trung Kien is currently a student in class 11A1, always a top student at Le Hong Phong High School (Phu Yen).
Trung Kien can’t remember all the certificates and awards he has received since primary school. His mother has neatly arranged them all in a cabinet. Over time, the glass cabinet in the middle of the house has run out of space.
Holding her son's certificates of merit, Mrs. Loan proudly said: "Whenever we are tired, my husband and I take out these "treasures" to clean. These are the results of our children's hard work in studying, and for parents, they are priceless assets."
Looking at her son, Mrs. Loan said: " When Kien took the exam, the family encouraged him to try his best, no matter what the result was, he was very proud. Unexpectedly, he achieved results beyond expectations... My husband and I did not have a high education, we only stayed at home to sell groceries, so the family's finances were just enough to get by. We just hope that our children will study well and have a bright future," Kien's mother shared.
Children learn, parents also ... learn
Trung Kien said that to achieve the achievements he has today, in addition to his own efforts, he also has the companionship of his parents.
His father was the one who taught Kien Math from childhood to 10th grade, even though he only graduated from high school. His mother was the one who taught him writing and literature.
"For difficult math problems, my father would go online to find solutions and then teach me. He patiently explained until I understood. Although my mother's handwriting wasn't beautiful, she tried hard to practice to improve my handwriting. When I stayed up all night to study for exams, my parents were always there to worry and ask me questions. My parents said, 'We don't care about your achievements, we just want you to be safe, healthy, and live your passion to the fullest, that's enough to make us happy ,'" Kien said emotionally.
Talking about difficulties, Kien once had a period of time when he was overloaded with knowledge because he had to put too much into his head. At that time, Kien received a lot of encouragement from his family, teachers and friends to overcome.
Trung Kien said, to be able to remember a lot of knowledge, he often goes online to search for information, reads more documents in books, takes notes in a small notebook, and when he has free time, he takes it out to read until he remembers the lesson.
Since childhood, Kien has been interested in learning about the animal world and thinking problems.
“My dream is to become a student majoring in Information Technology (Hanoi National University). Later, when I have the opportunity, I want to contribute to society and teach Math to children in remote areas,” Kien shared about his future plans.
In addition to studying, Trung Kien also has a passion for football. His idol is the player Lionel Messi, because to achieve success, Messi had to go through many difficulties, just like Kien's current situation.
“ To become a famous football star like today, Messi had to go through many difficulties but he always tried, did not complain and tried his best. I learned a lot about him and his personality,” Kien shared.
Ms. Tran Thi Le Thuy, Principal of Le Hong Phong High School, commented that Trung Kien is one of the students who is good at studying, studious, gentle, and modest.
In addition to the knowledge learned from teachers, Kien also self-studied and researched more on knowledge bases and other information channels with a humble, progressive, and passionate attitude.
“When I watched the program near the end, the MC read Kien's name, the school's name rang out 'the first contestant to win a ticket to the finals, the first time bringing the television bridge to Phu Yen province', I burst into tears, overwhelmed because my long-standing wish and hope had come true", Ms. Thuy said emotionally.
Mr. Tran Khac Le, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Phu Yen, said: "This is truly a source of pride and honor for the province's education system. Trung Kien is the first person to bring the live broadcast of the Road to Olympia final to Phu Yen province. I hope Kien will be 'brave, confident, and victorious' in the final match of the year, bringing the highest achievement to Phu Yen."
