On February 1, 2024, at the 4th ASEAN Digital Ministers Meeting (Singapore), the Digital Agriculture platform was honored with the Silver Award - ASEAN Digital Awards 2024, one of the region's largest awards in the field of IT.
ASEAN Digital Awards - ADA (formerly ASEAN ICT Awards - AICTA) is one of the largest and most prestigious awards for software and IT solutions from ASEAN countries. The award has been held annually since 2012, nominations are judged and evaluated based on many strict criteria by the Jury, which is the leader of the Ministry of Information and Communications from 10 ASEAN countries.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tuyen, Deputy Director of the Department of ICT Industry (Ministry of Information and Communications), a judge of the ADA 2024 award, said that since the award was first held under the old name of ASEAN ICT Award - AICTA in 2012, Vietnam has won many high prizes, but this year is the first time the Vietnamese delegation has achieved the highest achievement. During the judging process of the Final Round of the ASEAN Digital Award 2024 in Singapore, international experts highly appreciated Vietnam's digital technology products and solutions.
Not only leading the group of businesses with products entering the Final Round to Singapore to participate in the final round, the activities to support Vietnamese digital technology businesses to come to the ASEAN Digital 2024 playground by the group of officials of the Ministry of Information and Communications started about 6 months ago, when the award was launched and received applications.
Passing the application round, the domestic evaluation round of the Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam, the preliminary round of the International Jury, the digital agriculture platform MobiFone - mobiAgri became 1 of 4 nominations of Vietnam to participate in the Final round (presentation) in Singapore on January 31.
Competing in the Digital Inclusivity category, mobiAgri received high praise from the Jury, which is made up of representatives from 10 ASEAN countries and 3 guest countries from Japan, China, and Korea, because mobiAgri offers many outstanding and effective features for farmers. Specifically, mobiAgri has the ability to check crop health using AI, supporting the diagnosis and treatment of pests and diseases with the ability to identify more than 5,000 different types of crops and more than 700 harmful agents and pests. The Digital Inclusion category focuses on projects and initiatives that use technology to promote digital inclusion and access for disadvantaged groups in society, including farmers. With this Silver Award, mobiAgri affirms its role in applying technology in the agricultural sector, contributing to narrowing the digital gap and improving the quality of life for farmers.
“Digital agriculture is very important in Vietnam and as a leading telecommunications company, we are honored to be selected for the ASEAN Digital Awards 2024. This recognition motivates us to maintain our commitment to supporting Vietnamese farmers to embrace the digital era. With a nationwide network, we are dedicated to prioritizing customers, providing affordable products and contributing to social progress,” said Mr. Hoang Thanh Phuc, Head of MobiAgri Agricultural Services Development.
MobiFone representative affirmed that in 2024, mobiAgri will continue its journey to create a Vietnamese agriculture 4.0 with a commitment to continue making efforts to bring creative and effective technology solutions, helping farmers cultivate smartly, increase productivity and income.
Up to now, many large Vietnamese enterprises have announced to jump into the field of smart agriculture and high-tech agriculture such as: Hoang Anh Gia Lai, Hoa Phat, Thaco, VNPT, MobiFone...
Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Digital Agriculture Association (VIDA), said that Vietnamese agriculture is facing quite big challenges such as the constantly increasing demand for food due to the growing population; the area of agricultural land is increasingly narrowing due to the urbanization trend; the strong occurrence of climate change; the process of international economic integration requires the quality of agricultural products to constantly increase.
The above challenges require Vietnamese agricultural products to continuously increase in output and improve in quality. Therefore, the application of high technology is an inevitable trend in agriculture and a solution to address the challenges of the country's agriculture.
“Digital agriculture in the 4.0 era is the most sophisticated of all industries. Agriculture touches the most important secrets of life, which are biotechnology, genetic technology and that is digital. Thanks to the application of digital technology, agriculture will connect with farmers through smartphones. Thereby, each production household has all the necessary information, can ask questions and robots will answer the knowledge they need to know. Previously, farmers often went to catch worms, when they saw them, they caught them but never saw them all. To choose the safe way, people had to spray a lot of pesticides, making Vietnamese agricultural products dirtier and cheaper. We have to research science and technology to be able to release a drone to fly over the fields. Specialized equipment will automatically take pictures of the fields and artificial intelligence will automatically read that picture, detecting locations with worms. The computer will inform farmers what kind of medicine to use to treat that type of pest and what dosage, so the amount of pesticides can be reduced hundreds of times," said Mr. Truong Gia Binh.
"We will do agriculture in unprecedented ways, as the most modern country in agriculture, not a country that accepts to be behind," Mr. Truong Gia Binh emphasized and expected that Vietnamese enterprises can become rich because of digital agriculture.
