This April, Van Mai Huong will have a concert in Japan. In June, Ha Anh Tuan will have two concerts in Singapore.

When Vietnamese singers perform internationally, the audience is still mainly Vietnamese, but the age and taste have changed, becoming younger and more "trendy" than before.

Therefore, Vietnamese singers organizing music nights abroad also need to be larger and more professional.

The organizing efforts, especially in world-famous auditoriums like singer Ha Anh Tuan is doing, are very encouraging.

Tickets for Ha Anh Tuan's two concerts in Singapore went on sale on the morning of April 16.

This is a test of Tuan's ticket sales speed abroad, which may not be as fast as domestically, but it is also a new step in the journey of impressive music nights - something Tuan has persistently pursued throughout his career.

I don't know where I'll pinch because it's a big dream. If it goes as announced, I don't know what it will be like. Will the audience come? I also want to meet Vietnamese audiences who live and work in Australia and Singapore.

Ha Anh Tuan said when announcing the international performance project Sketch a Rose.

Ha Anh Tuan, Van Mai Huong go international

Ha Anh Tuan will organize Sketch a Rose concerts in Singapore and Australia. In Singapore, he will perform two nights at the Esplanade Theater (Durian Theater) on June 11 and 12.

In Australia, he performed at the Sydney Opera House on September 29.

These venues only have auditoriums with about 1,500, 1,600 or 2,000 seats (much less than Ha Anh Tuan's music nights in Vietnam) but are all architectural and musical symbols of the two countries.

On April 20, the music night TKO Concert 01: Huong - Live in Tokyo will take place in Japan with singer Van Mai Huong and guests Hoang Dung, Lam Bao Ngoc, and Mr. Bott Band.

On June 15, TKO Concert 02: Ngo Kien Huy - Fan Meeting in Tokyo took place with two guests. On September 27, TKO Concert 03: Bang Kieu - Live in Tokyo and other guests continued.

Director Van Trinh (Kiki Tran) - producer of the TKO Concert series in Japan - told Tuoi Tre: "The Hulic Hall Tokyo Theater has 886 seats, and by April 16, all seats were sold out.

The team of stage directors, photography directors, cameramen, and producers from Vietnam, with nearly 20 people, will coordinate with the team in Japan. The Vietnamese artists have prepared unique gifts, which are products for the audience who choose the fansign package (artists sign autographs for fans).

As someone who has attended many of Ha Anh Tuan's concerts in Vietnam, audience member Ngoc Mai (HCMC) said she will attend both concerts in Singapore and Australia.

Ngoc Mai said: "The ticket price for the concert in Singapore is quite cheap, which surprised me, because I looked at other concerts abroad and the ticket price is usually about 30% higher, but the ticket price for Ha Anh Tuan's Sketch a Rose show in Singapore is only from 2 to nearly 6 million VND, quite affordable. Airfare and hotel in Singapore is about under 10 million VND."

The female audience commented that the markets in Singapore and Australia have a large number of Vietnamese people and the scale of the music nights is moderate.

"The standards of foreign theaters are all high. If we reach an agreement at the first step, I expect the quality of the two concerts to be higher than domestic stages," Ngoc Mai said.

No longer old-fashioned and dependent on show organizers

Mr. Hong Quang Minh, an entertainment industry media expert, commented that when Vietnamese artists hold concerts or music nights abroad, the majority of the audience will definitely still be Vietnamese.

Previously, shows abroad were mostly organized by overseas show organizers, booking Vietnamese artists to sing familiar songs, promoting on a small scale, and with a limited audience (under 500 tickets).

Some other shows are held at casinos, and the artists are paid for by the casino. The performance style at these stages often pleases the old audience.

"But in the past 5 years, the audience's target and taste have changed, becoming younger and more up-to-date with the market. They like younger singers, rappers, DJs and listen to new songs.

Therefore, Vietnamese artists are also more interested and invested in the quality of the program and the scale of the performance. They no longer accept programs booked through show organizers, but instead find their own locations and organize larger-scale programs with elaborate content no different from those in Vietnam.

This benefits Vietnamese audiences abroad, and singers also enhance their brands in foreign markets (considered within the Vietnamese community)," said Mr. Hong Quang Minh.

Mr. Minh commented that this is a new cycle of "Vietnamese music going international", it will take 5 years, 10 years to answer about the level of success.

As for the organizers, they also hope to gradually become more professional in terms of organization and appropriate ticket prices.

Director Van Trinh said that after the music nights in 2024, TKO Concert will collect data on the needs of Vietnamese audiences in Japan to build a suitable model to serve a diverse audience.

The organizers hope to balance costs to gradually standardize the ticketing system and prices to suit the income of audiences in Japan.
