When AI has no heart, but is gradually learning to empathize and share

Artificial Intelligence (AI) cannot create for you, cannot hurt for you. It cannot doubt, cannot desire, cannot break or heal like humans. But, AI is getting better and better at doing things than irresponsible and emotionless humans.

We are witnessing an unprecedented explosion in AI development. In the past two years alone, artificial intelligence models such as ChatGPT, Deepseek, Grok, Gemini, Claude, Sora, and the Humanoid robots from Tesla and Baidu have advanced so quickly that they have surpassed all imagination and predictions.

Every day, Google and social networks receive more than 10 billion questions. And this number is still growing exponentially. We are no longer living in a world of structured knowledge, but are entering a vast universe of unknown things that our long-standing learning cannot keep up with...

With the great achievements of AI in all activities, especially in recent learning, very big questions have been raised: Is AI replacing humans? Are intelligence and emotions still exclusive to humans? How to learn and train human resources to develop the future with AI?

Outstanding achievements of AI

AI has proven to be a boon in diagnosing diseases. For example, AI systems can identify cancer with the same accuracy as radiologists, while reducing the number of misdiagnoses. AI can also help doctors detect diseases early and develop personalized treatments.

Another study found that AI chatbots achieved an average accuracy of up to 90% in analyzing medical records, while a group of doctors using chatbots achieved only 76%, and a group of doctors who self-diagnosed had lower results.

AI is becoming an integral part of modern education. It creates new ways of teaching and learning, personalizing the experience for each student. AI also helps teachers reduce their workload by automating repetitive administrative tasks.

In China, since OpenAI launched ChatGPT in 2022, online AI courses have flourished, attracting the attention of a large number of learners. Many educational platforms have used AI to provide and train specialized knowledge, helping learners access new knowledge easily and effectively. This helps reduce the need for expensive tutoring and facilitates more flexible learning.

AI has significantly assisted in writing scientific papers. Tools like Smodin help generate research papers from academic papers with APA sources in minutes. This saves time and effort for researchers.

Three papers generated by The AI Scientist-v2 were submitted to a workshop at ICLR (the International Conference on Learning Representations, one of the leading conferences in AI and deep learning) in a double-blind peer review process. Reviewers were informed that some of the papers were likely AI-generated, but not specifically which ones. One of them passed the average human acceptance threshold and was accepted, marking the first time a paper entirely generated by AI has been accepted through a rigorous peer review process.

AI has also demonstrated its creativity in the field of art. The work “The Land of Machine Memories” created by AI in 3 hours beat nearly 200 competitors and won second prize in the 2023 science fiction novel competition in Jiangsu, China. This shows the ability of AI to create high-quality literary works that are competitive in prestigious competitions.

At the 2022 Colorado State Art Fair in the US, an AI-generated work won first prize in the digital art category. The AI-generated painting “Théâtre D'opéra Spatial” (Opera in Space) Midjourney surpassed many other works and was highly appreciated by the jury, causing much controversy in the art community about the boundary between human-generated and AI-generated art.

AI outperforms people who lack responsibility and emotion

The above examples demonstrate that AI is advancing and is capable of taking on many roles in different fields. However, this also raises the question of whether humans need to improve the quality and responsibility of their work to avoid being replaced by technology.

Today, AI not only passes intelligence tests (IQ), writes poems, paints, teaches, diagnoses diseases, but is also learning to empathize, listen, and serve humanity.

AI is learning to "empathize," comfort, share, and debate.

AI is learning to “empathize.” Models like Pi, Replika, GPT-4o, not only respond intelligently but also know how to comfort, share, and argue like a confidant. AI does not have a biological heart, but is gradually gaining the ability to understand and respond to human emotions.

AI certainly does not have a heart in the biological sense. But “heart” in the spiritual, moral, and benevolent sense is something humans can cultivate in the process of training AI. Just as humans can impart morality, compassion, and beauty to each other, so too can AI cultivate the best values of humanity.

AI cannot have a heart like humans, but it can learn to serve hearts that know love and kindness, and can learn from millions of beats of compassion to become part of the mission of truth, goodness, and beauty in the new era.

Although AI cannot create for you, cannot hurt for you. It cannot doubt, cannot desire, cannot break or heal like humans, AI is becoming more and more perfect and can do better than people who lack responsibility and emotion. AI can not only assist but also replace humans in many jobs, especially when humans do not perform the job with dedication and efficiency.

Learn to be a technology leader

In a world where robots can draw pictures, write music, compose poems... ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) education is the way to help people not become a shadow of themselves, but become a leader for technology.

Learning is not just for a career, but to understand yourself – understand others – understand the universe. Learning to live meaningfully in a world where AI can be stronger, faster, more creative, and have “heart” and “emotion” to share with humans.

We not only teach students how to use computers, but also train them in computational thinking, systemic thinking, and creative thinking; not only teach programming, but also teach them the skills to collaborate with AI, test AI, and create with AI.

AI won't replace good people, but it will help good people go further – and replace those who don't adapt.

In general education, elementary school students can access AI through the Scratch programming game, through the ChatGPT application as a "teaching assistant" who can tell anime-style fairy tales or debate like a philosopher.

In universities, every field of study, from medicine, law, economics to art, needs an ICT foundation to exploit AI responsibly and creatively. From technology learners to technology creators, towards technological autonomy.

We need to train people who program AI ecosystems, not just use AI as tools; people who ask big questions about humanity, not just write code with correct syntax; “ethical engineers” who know how to integrate human values into algorithms, who know how to design AI that is not only powerful but also correct, beautiful and trustworthy.

In an era where every year is a technological revolution, graduation is no longer the end of learning, but the beginning of a lifelong learning journey.

The more powerful AI becomes, the more we need ICT education that focuses on emotional intelligence, digital ethics, and cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural collaboration. ICT cannot be just a technical tool, but also an ecosystem that nurtures the creativity, character, and ideals of future generations.
