As planned, tomorrow (April 20), Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation will inaugurate and put into use the Dien Bien Airport Air Traffic Control Station after exactly 1 year of construction.
It is known that the Dien Bien Airport Air Traffic Control Tower Project is one of the key projects along with the expansion and upgrading of Dien Bien Airport, with a total investment of more than 93 billion VND invested by the development investment capital of Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation. The project started on April 27, 2023.
The new Dien Bien Air Traffic Control Tower is located in the central area of Dien Bien Airport, ensuring visibility to areas on the new runway, key areas, taxiways, aprons and areas adjacent to the airport.
The project meets international standards, meeting the requirements of safe - smooth - effective flight operations while ensuring the provision of 24/7 flight operations services including airport control, ground control, and military flight operations control for all flights to/from Dien Bien Airport and the Northwest region at present and ensuring the response to increased flight traffic in the future.
The monument was built with a total area of 6,150m², symbolizing the generality, associated with the typical images of Dien Bien province.
In particular, the 36m high air traffic control tower has an area of 62.5m², designed with 5 sturdy edges, the tower body is divided into 5 petals, stylized from the image of Ban flower - a flower with pure beauty in the Northwest mountains and forests, is the highlight of the architecture and landscape at the airport area.
The interior of the air traffic control cabin is spacious, ensuring enough working space for the forces participating in flight operations of both civil and military aviation at the same time.
The operating area and rest house of the air traffic control station have an area of nearly 735m², inspired by the historic victory of Dien Bien Phu. The mark is stylized from the command bunker model of the Dien Bien Phu stronghold group (Ham Do - Cat), with a dome shape, creating a harmonious whole with the mountain and hill scenery around Dien Bien airport.
The new Dien Bien Air Traffic Control Station was invested in by Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation, installing a modern flight operation equipment system, meeting the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
In addition, the Corporation also installed two additional VHF communication relay stations at Pha Din and Dien Bien Dong to ensure coverage, helping to ensure smooth and stable communication between air traffic controllers and flight crews. The application of flight methods using satellite technology ensures safety, accuracy and the ability to ensure operations in more complex weather conditions than traditional flight methods.
The new flight control methods designed by Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation are more flexible, straighter and have shorter flight trajectories, helping to save flight time for airlines and improve the exploitation capacity of Dien Bien airport.
