On June 17, Nha Trang City People's Committee announced that it had prepared funds for the restoration of Truong Dong Communal House. According to the estimate, the restoration of Truong Dong Communal House will cost more than 13 billion VND; of which 10.7 billion VND will come from Nha Trang City, the remaining 2.5 billion VND will come from ticket sales to national relics in the province.
Previously, on the afternoon of June 16, Mr. Ho Van Mung, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Nha Trang City Party Committee, and reporters from Thanh Nien Newspaper directly inspected Truong Dong communal house. Here, Mr. Mung noted the serious deterioration of the communal house as reported by the press and voters.
According to the Secretary of the Nha Trang City Party Committee, the Truong Dong communal house relic is the first relic of the province to be conferred by the Nguyen Dynasty, a valuable asset of the people, so it is very necessary to restore and preserve it. "The city has currently arranged funding for the restoration. Next Monday, the city will sign a document to send to the province requesting the policy of allocating 2.5 billion VND from the budget for the restoration of the relic in time to submit to the Provincial People's Council for approval at the meeting next July," Mr. Mung added.
Previously, on May 30, Thanh Nien Newspaper published an article titled “The 150-year-old communal house in Nha Trang is at risk of collapsing at any time ,” reflecting that Truong Dong communal house in Vinh Truong Ward, Nha Trang City was built more than 150 years ago, and was conferred 9 times by Nguyen Dynasty kings, but now the communal house is at risk of collapsing due to lack of maintenance.
After Thanh Nien reported for 1 day, on the morning of May 31, Mr. Nguyen Tan Tuan, Chairman of Khanh Hoa People's Committee, proactively contacted Thanh Nien Newspaper reporter to inform about the policy of restoring Truong Dong communal house. According to Mr. Tuan, the provincial leaders thanked Thanh Nien Newspaper for promptly reporting the incident so that the provincial leaders could better understand the serious deterioration of the communal house. Immediately after that, the Chairman of Khanh Hoa People's Committee held a meeting with relevant departments and reached an agreement to promptly allocate funds to restore Truong Dong communal house.
Truong Dong Communal House has been a place associated with coastal residents in Nha Trang City since ancient times. According to the elders, the communal house was built in the early 19th century to worship Thanh Hoang of the village and also worship Nam Hai, Ngu Hanh, Tien Hien, Hau Hien... The communal house still preserves 9 royal decrees granted by the Nguyen Dynasty kings. This is a valuable relic in terms of history - culture, architecture and art, decorated with delicate and unique patterns and mascots... In particular, the wooden architectural system is still quite intact.
In 2010, the communal house was ranked as a provincial historical-cultural relic by the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province. The communal house covers an area of over 1,000 m2, with many construction items: Nghi Mon gate, communal house, mausoleum, and shrine. However, many items at Truong Dong communal house are currently very dilapidated, the wooden pillars supporting the house are rotten, the brick walls are cracked in many places, the tiled roof is peeling and leaking. Not only that, because it is located in the middle of a residential area, the surrounding houses have raised the ground, causing the communal house yard to be in the middle, and every time there is heavy rain, the communal house and mausoleum are deeply flooded, causing the quality of the wooden construction items to deteriorate more quickly.
At the end of March 2023, the People's Committee of Nha Trang City submitted a document to the Department of Planning and Investment for appraisal of the investment proposal report for the project to restore the provincial-level relic Truong Dong communal house. According to the People's Committee of Nha Trang City, the total investment is expected to be 13 billion VND, of which the provincial budget is expected to be 2.5 billion VND and the Nha Trang City budget is 10.5 billion VND. The investor is the People's Committee of Vinh Truong Ward; the implementation period is from 2023 to 2025. However, recently, the Department of Culture - Sports of Khanh Hoa province has responded in writing that it has not been able to arrange counterpart funds of 2.5 billion VND from the provincial budget to restore this project. Therefore, up to now, the project to restore Truong Dong communal house has not been able to be implemented, while the communal house is at risk of collapsing at any time.
