Affirming position in the inter-regional economic chain

After more than 2 years of implementing the Eastern Expressway Economic Connection Agreement (VEHEC), the members of the association have gradually affirmed their position in the inter-regional economic chain, becoming an important driving force of the Northern region. Anticipating new development trends, VEHEC continues to promote smart production cooperation to become a driving force for modernization and economic growth.

VEHEC's smart manufacturing supply chain promotion conference took place in early December in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province.

According to the assessment of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), VEHEC is an important economic driving force of the North with a high regional GRDP growth rate, ranging from 9-12% per year, higher than the average GRDP of 63 provinces and cities nationwide. This is also the center of FDI attraction in the country when in 2023, Hai Phong City attracted 3.5 billion USD, Quang Ninh more than 3.1 billion USD, making these two provinces the leading localities in the country in attracting FDI. This is the first sub-regional connectivity model in Vietnam, aiming to realize the Party and State's policy of promoting regional connectivity. At the same time, optimizing resources, exploiting the strengths of each province, thereby creating new development space, creating a favorable business environment, high economic growth, a strong business community, maximizing the economic potential of the region.

Currently, the total number of enterprises operating in production and business in the 4 VEHEC localities including Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Hung Yen is over 52,000 enterprises, accounting for 5.7% of the total number of enterprises operating nationwide. On the basis of creating links between enterprises in VEHEC, connection agreements and cooperation agreements have been initially formed, focusing on trade and investment promotion; transportation and logistics; development of production supply chains; development of tourism and services; high-tech agriculture and agricultural processing; digital transformation and digital connection... VEHEC prioritizes specific activities that bring practical results, creating a dynamic economic development area.

Over the past year, the linkage between VEHEC enterprises has made remarkable progress based on exploiting local competitive advantages, such as: Land and sea border gates with China; large international seaports of Hai Phong; abundant human resources in Hai Duong and Hung Yen... This has helped localities effectively exploit advantages, break down unfavorable barriers in development, strongly impact trade and freight transport, contributing to reducing investment costs and increasing profits.

Mr. Pham Van The, Chairman of the VEHEC Regional Business Council, said: VEHEC has been successful in organizing the Industrial Park Forum to connect industrial park developers, investors and the government towards a green and sustainable future. Along with that is close coordination in training programs, joint communication activities and many other development cooperation activities. Recently in Ha Long City, the association continued to organize a conference to promote smart manufacturing supply chains. This is an important guide for businesses to access new production technologies in the world, with new orientations and strategies, more suitable to the context.

In the context of the strong development of science and technology and industry 4.0, the global economy is moving, smart manufacturing has become an important driving force for modernization and economic growth... Vietnam - a new production link in Asia is playing an increasingly important role in the global smart manufacturing supply chain when the wave of investment shifting to Asia, including Vietnam, is getting stronger. In Vietnam, there have been many smart manufacturing projects from Europe, companies from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, China... Currently, potential investors in the electronic components and semiconductor manufacturing industry such as NIVIDA from the US, ASML from the Netherlands, Amkor, Seojin from Korea... continue to seek investment opportunities in Vietnam. To seize the opportunity to cooperate with the "eagles" of source technology and keep up with new trends, VEHEC members have immediately deployed cooperation and smart manufacturing solutions, which is a step in the right direction.
