On July 25, on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Laos, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi had a 40-minute bilateral meeting.

According to Xinhua news agency, at the meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that the relationship between China and Russia is consolidated, stable, sustainable and independent, with solid political mutual trust.
The two sides have increasingly deep strategic coordination, with broad prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation, strong people-to-people exchanges and constructive international cooperation.
The Chinese foreign minister affirmed that Beijing is willing to work with Moscow to maintain the original aspiration of long-term friendship and good-neighborliness, strongly support each other, safeguard each other's core interests and always be good partners for development and recovery.
Besides, cooperation also aims to cope with the complex and volatile international situation, external instabilities and obstacles.
Noting that the two countries can maintain contact and coordination in cooperation in the East Asia region, according to Mr. Wang Yi, China is willing to cooperate with Russia to ensure an inclusive, open, ASEAN-centered regional cooperation structure, promoting the current East Asia mechanism to consolidate cooperation consensus, for peace, stability and prosperity of the region.
For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that under the strategic guidance of the two countries' heads of state, Russia and China have maintained close contact, strengthened strategic coordination, jointly safeguarded a fair international order, implemented true multilateralism, and injected positive energy into building a multipolar world.
The Russian foreign ministry chief affirmed that Moscow will cooperate with Beijing to support ASEAN's central role and prevent interference and intrusion by outside forces.
