The Environmental Monitoring Center took water samples from a stream in Binh Phu commune (Chiem Hoa).
Accordingly, in the report dated September 13, 2024 of the People's Committee of Chiem Hoa district, on the morning of September 10, people in Phu Binh commune reported that the stream water from Bac Kan province flowing through the commune had a brown color and an unusual smell. What is of concern is that wherever the water flows, there are mass fish deaths in fish cages and natural fish in the stream. The People's Committee of Binh Phu commune inspected and contacted the leaders of Yen Thinh commune, Cho Don district, Bac Kan province to find out the cause.
The initial cause was determined to be the break of the dam containing water from the ore processing factory in Ban Thi commune, Cho Don district, Bac Kan province, flowing through Yen Thinh commune, Cho Don district, then flowing into Binh Phu, Phu Binh, Yen Lap communes (Chiem Hoa) and flowing into Gam river, affecting domestic water, production land and livestock of households using water sources in the area.
Immediately after receiving a preliminary report from Chiem Hoa district on the water pollution situation in Binh Phu commune and communes with streams flowing through Chiem Hoa district, the Provincial People's Committee directed relevant agencies to urgently collect environmental monitoring samples in the area.
On September 14, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment directed the Environmental Monitoring Center, in coordination with the People's Committee of Chiem Hoa district, the People's Committees of Binh Phu, Phu Binh, and Yen Lap, to collect samples of local stream water for analysis according to regulations.
