DNO - On the afternoon of December 31, Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Trung Chinh, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Chi Cuong, together with leaders of departments, branches and the People's Committee of Son Tra district inspected the coastal erosion situation at My Khe beach (Phuoc My ward, Son Tra district) due to the influence of the strong northeast monsoon (strongly strengthened cold air) in recent times.

At the inspection, Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Trung Chinh assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to coordinate with the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang tourist beaches to find urgent solutions to temporarily overcome and limit the ongoing landslide situation, especially in areas with deep erosion.
At the same time, urgently stretch warning ropes and lookouts at landslide locations to ensure safety for people and tourists.
Departments, branches, sectors and localities continue to research and propose to the city stable and long-term solutions to protect the coast, especially at My Khe beach because this section of the coast does not have a solid breakwater.
According to reports from some units and localities, the coastal section through Son Tra district has 3 locations that are eroded due to waves eroding deep into the sand.
The coastal sections in the east of the city (Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts) are often eroded every year during the rainy and stormy season due to strong storm winds and northeast monsoons. In spring or early March every year, when the southwest wind is active, the sand is deposited again.
According to initial assessment, recently, due to the strong cold air, the northeast monsoon has been active at sea, causing big waves and rising sea levels, causing waves to erode deep into the sand, causing landslides in some locations on the coast.
On the other hand, due to the fact that this year's rainy and stormy season did not cause major floods in the Vu Gia - Thu Bon river basin, there was no large amount of mud and sand transported from the mainland to the river mouth to replenish the coast.
The Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Da Nang City said that according to the coastal landslide response plan in Da Nang City issued by the City People's Committee in Decision No. 3459/QD-UBND dated November 1, 2021, emergency solutions to deal with coastal landslides and landslides, subsidence, and damage to coastal infrastructure are closely following the motto "4 on-site" and "3 ready".
Specifically, the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang tourist beaches regularly monitor and, when detecting that the coast is at risk, has signs of or is being eroded or eroded; coastal infrastructure is at risk or has been eroded, subsided, or damaged, it will notify, put up warning signs, cordon off, and prevent people and vehicles from entering the eroded, subsided, or damaged areas; coordinate to send patrol forces and provide guidance at the eroded, subsided, or damaged locations to ensure the safety of people and tourists when traveling or swimming.
At the same time, closely monitor the development of landslides, subsidence, and damage to promptly deploy response and remedial solutions; organize and implement emergency response plans for coastal landslides; landslides, subsidence, and damage to coastal infrastructure (sidewalks, embankments, power systems, water supply, trees, etc.) in the assigned management area; promptly respond and quickly remedy (initial treatment to limit the risk of more serious coastal landslides) for each coastal area at risk of erosion, landslides, or being eroded, landslides according to technical plans...
