Urgently complete investment procedures for Bac Kan - Cao Bang expressway

On March 26, Cao Bang province had a working session with the delegation of the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board (PMU) on the implementation of the Bac Kan - Cao Bang Expressway construction investment project.

At the meeting, departments, branches and sectors of Cao Bang province discussed and agreed with the project management board to speed up the progress of procedures and documents; proactively and urgently clear the land, assess environmental impacts, convert forest land, etc.

Cao Bang provincial leaders spoke at the meeting.

Cao Bang province also proposed that the Project Management Board adjust the Cao Bang - Bac Kan expressway through Cao Bang to connect with the Dong Dang - Tra Linh expressway to create connectivity and enhance the province's trade and diplomacy in the coming years.

Vice Chairman of Cao Bang Provincial People's Committee Hoang Van Thach said that the provincial departments, branches and sectors will urgently complete procedures and documents to send to the Project Management Board to soon complete the pre-feasibility report to submit to the Prime Minister for approval.

The investment project to build the Bac Kan - Cao Bang expressway was approved by the Prime Minister in Notice No. 333/TB-VPCP dated August 18, 2023. After that, the leaders of Cao Bang Provincial People's Committee and Bac Kan Provincial People's Committee held a meeting and agreed on contents such as the investment scale of the 4-lane expressway, speed of 80 km/h (sections with favorable terrain are designed at 100 km/h) according to TCVN 5729:2012.

The project is divided into two components: The expressway section through Bac Kan province is implemented by Bac Kan province; the section through Cao Bang province is implemented by Cao Bang province. Bac Kan province is the focal agency in the process of working and proposing the project to the Prime Minister, ministries and central branches.

When under construction, the Cao Bang - Bac Kan expressway will connect and complete the Hanoi - Thai Nguyen - Bac Kan - Cao Bang expressway.

The Cao Bang - Bac Kan expressway section passing through Cao Bang is 30 km long, starting from Khau Xiem hamlet, Minh Khai commune (Thach An), parallel to provincial road 209 through Hoa An district to the final point connecting with Vo Nguyen Giap street, De Tham ward (City). This section of road passes through many difficult terrains and will have a highway tunnel through the mountains.

In May 2024, Cao Bang province approved the budget for the investment preparation task of the Bac Kan - Cao Bang Expressway Project (section passing through Cao Bang province) as well as selecting a consulting contractor, surveying, and preparing a pre-feasibility study report.

A few days ago, Project Management Board 2 - Ministry of Construction also started construction of the Cho Moi - Bac Kan City route. With the pre-feasibility report and approval for construction investment, the travel from Hanoi through Thai Nguyen to Bac Kan and Cao Bang will be convenient, significantly shortening the time.
