Although not contagious, non-communicable diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, bone and joint diseases, etc. often cause many serious consequences for the health and quality of life of the patient as well as bring great harm to the family and society.

Early detection will help patients receive timely treatment, reduce the risk of complications and improve the quality of life. At the same time, it helps reduce the burden of medical costs for both patients and the health system. Therefore, strengthening screening and early detection of non-communicable diseases is always a top priority in public health care, thereby improving and enhancing the quality of the population.

At non-communicable disease screening sessions, people in Duc Tho district have their blood pressure, osteoporosis, and diabetes tested by medical staff.

Since the beginning of March 2025, the Provincial Department of Population has developed a plan and instructed local health centers to organize screening to detect early those with diseases or risk factors for non-communicable diseases. Priority is given to those aged 40 and over who have not yet been detected and have not yet been listed for disease management.

Having just arrived at the Yen Ho Commune Health Station (Duc Tho), Ms. Phan Thi Ha (50 years old, Yen Ho Commune) shared: “Recently, I often have trouble sleeping, numb limbs, and cramps... The commune health station informed me that a team from the Duc Tho District Health Center would come to examine me, so I went to the station early in the morning to wait. After a thorough examination and consultation, the doctor diagnosed me with a risk of stage 2 osteoporosis. The doctor instructed me on the treatment direction and to return for a follow-up examination at the nearest medical facility.”

It is known that the non-communicable disease screening program in Duc Tho district was organized from March 27 to April 3, 2025 in all communes and towns across the district. Up to now, the District Health Center has organized screening examinations in 14 communes and towns with nearly 2,800 participants. During the examination sessions, people were not only screened, had their blood pressure measured, had their osteoporosis measured, and had their diabetes tested... but were also consulted and thoroughly communicated by medical staff about the causes, risks, consequences, and prevention of non-communicable diseases.

Accordingly, nearly 1,000 people from 6/6 communes and wards came for screening. Through the examinations, many people were diagnosed with a number of non-communicable diseases. Of these, about 197 people were diagnosed with blood pressure, about 211 people were diagnosed with diabetes...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang Nga - Deputy Head of the Department of Population - Communication and Health Education (Hong Linh Town Health Center) said: "Before the screening program took place, the unit actively promoted communication activities to raise people's awareness of the risks and consequences of non-communicable diseases on personal, family and social health. At the same time, preparations for human resources, medical equipment and screening locations were also carefully implemented, ensuring convenience for people when participating in the program. Therefore, the screening sessions were all highly effective."

Many people in Trung Luong Ward (Hong Linh Town) came to the ward health station for examination and consultation on how to prevent non-communicable diseases on March 24, 2025.

To date, the province has implemented the screening program for non-communicable diseases in the districts of Duc Tho, Nghi Xuan and Hong Linh town. Thanks to that, nearly 6,000 people have been screened, contributing to early detection of diseases. The remaining localities have also planned to organize screening based on the actual situation of each locality.

It is known that the screening program not only focuses on disease detection but also focuses on health consultation, instructing people on nutrition, healthy lifestyle and preventive measures... This helps people be more proactive in taking care of their own health and that of their families, thereby reducing the burden of disease on society.
