Nestled amidst majestic and pristine mountain scenery, Dak Ruoi Waterfall is one of the ideal destinations for those who love exploring the mountains and forests of Kon Tum.

Dak Ruoi Waterfall is located on Dak Trot stream, in Dak Poi village, Dak Glei town, Dak Glei district, Kon Tum province, about 11km from the town center. It is one of the waterfalls that still retains its pristine beauty, with many cascading tiers forming a long, white stream like a soft silk ribbon flowing down amidst the deep green forest.

In recent years, people in Dak Glei district have often come to the waterfall to have fun and relax on weekends after stressful working days.

To reach the waterfall from Dak Glei town, it took me almost 30 minutes by motorbike. The road to the waterfall is unpaved, with many sections eroded by rain and floods, and full of potholes, making travel somewhat inconvenient. If you go by car, you can't reach the base of the waterfall; you have to travel another 2km from the parking spot.

The road to Dak Ruoi Waterfall is also the road to the main production area of the people in Dak Poi and Dak Tung villages (Dak Glei town), so it's very deserted. However, if you want to experience the waterfall, you should prepare plenty of food and drinks because there are no shops or restaurants along the entire route.

The road to the waterfall is lined with lush greenery, rolling mountains, and winding streams. Occasionally, you'll come across small huts belonging to locals where you can stop to rest and admire the scenery. Particularly noteworthy are the ancient banyan trees along the way, their trunks intertwined to form a tall, imposing gateway, creating a striking and unusual sight.

Although the waterfall is located deep within a primeval forest, because the stream flows down from the high mountains, the top tier of the waterfall can be seen from a great distance. The waterfall is situated at an altitude of over 800 meters above sea level, surrounded on all sides by vast, sprawling primeval forests with thick vegetation and dense tree communities that filter and retain water, regulating the flow from the mountaintop. Therefore, the stream here has a stable water source, never dries up, and its water remains crystal clear year-round.

Due to the highly dissected terrain and significant elevation differences, the water cascading down from the waterfall's tiers is very powerful, producing a deep, majestic sound. The water strikes the rocks at the base of the falls, creating a spray of white foam that forms a hazy mist, making the scene even more captivating and poetic.

Following the flow of the river, numerous waterfalls of varying sizes are formed, creating cool, refreshing pools. You can enjoy swimming and soaking in the pools to cool off. Around these pools, there are many large and small rocks of different shapes stacked on top of each other, interspersed with forest trees. Along with the clear, cool water, the gentle sound of trickling water, and the distant chirping of forest birds, all combine to create a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere, capable of dispelling the worries and stresses of life.

According to Mr. A Klăy (52 years old), deputy head of Dak Poi village, the waterfall has five tiers, with an average height of 20-40 meters per tier, and the top tier being the highest at about 50 meters. The waterfall is associated with his childhood and the memories of generations of villagers. To this day, he still joins the young people of Dak Poi village to swim and fish at the waterfall, and often guides tourists to visit and experience it.

The best time to visit Dak Ruoi Waterfall is from November to April. During this period, the rainy season has ended, the water is not too strong, and the stream is always clear and cool. The area at the foot of the waterfall has many large rocks, making it an ideal spot for camping, picnics, and cooling off on hot days.

“The waterfall is usually crowded with visitors on holidays and weekends. They come here mainly to swim, cook, eat, and participate in group activities. In addition, in recent years, the people of Dak Poi village have become increasingly aware of and compliant with the law, determined to preserve the forest and the surrounding landscape of the waterfall, hoping for the further development of tourism here. The people of Dak Poi hope that the local government will pay attention to building roads to make it convenient and safe for locals and tourists to access the waterfall,” added Mr. A Klay.

It is known that recently, under the direction of the Town Party Committee, the Dak Glei Town Youth Union has implemented a youth project at Dak Ruoi Waterfall. The project includes building rest shelters and regularly cleaning up the area to ensure it remains green, clean, and beautiful, aiming to create an attractive and safe tourist destination for locals and visitors to explore and enjoy.

With its dreamy, pristine beauty, a masterpiece bestowed by nature, Dak Ruoi Waterfall is gradually becoming an ideal destination for adventure enthusiasts. However, visiting the waterfall at this time of year, tourists should consider using skincare products or insect repellents, limit overnight stays, and acquire necessary knowledge for trekking through the forest and wading through streams to ensure safe and enjoyable trips.
