Discover Mexican culture through a series of exhibitions and promotional events

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Vietnam (May 19, 1975 - May 19, 2025), many cultural and people-to-people exchange activities will take place throughout 2025 in many localities.

On May 16, the Mexican Embassy announced a rich and diverse program of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Vietnam (May 19, 1975 - May 19, 2025).

The program includes many special exhibitions, notably "Journey through Ancient Mexico: Gods, People and Nature" - introducing to the Vietnamese public the beauty and cultural depth of ancient Mexican civilizations provided by the National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico, scheduled to take place at the Hanoi Exhibition Center, 93 Dinh Tien Hoang in May 2025.

Next up is the exhibition “Contemporary Art from Northern Mexico” taking place in September-October 2025, presenting works of diverse forms by young artists from the city of Monterrey.

Notably, in October in Da Nang city, there will be an exhibition “Mexico: World Heritage of Humanity” and a re-inauguration ceremony for the sculpture “Totem City Stories” by famous artist Paloma Torres.

The exhibition “Colossal Heads from the Gulf of Mexico” will take place at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts in September 2025. The public will be able to admire a replica of the Olmeca colossal head “El Rey” or “Colossal Head No. 1” along with images introducing the discovery process and the importance of the Olmeca heads in the context of ancient Mexican civilizations.

On November 3, “Day of the Dead” (Día de muertos), one of the most unique cultural features of the Mexican people, will be introduced at Hanoi University. Students of the Spanish Language Department and the Mexican Embassy in Vietnam will present a traditional Mexican altar to introduce the profound cultural significance of this traditional holiday to the community.

On May 9, the Vietnamese edition of the famous work “The Wild Book” (El Libro Salvaje) by Mexican writer Juan Villoro will be launched at Hanoi University.

The Mexican Radio Institute (IMER) has produced two special radio programs titled “A Sound Journey Through Traditional Mexican Music” and “Magical Sounds from Mexico.” These programs will be broadcast in Vietnamese on Voice of Vietnam and Hanoi Radio (FM96), on May 19.

In addition to cultural activities, the program also includes culinary and economic promotion events. The highlight is the Mexican culinary program “50 years of flavor and friendship with Vietnam” with the participation of chef Tomas Alaníz, taking place from May 16 to June 16 at the Metropole Hanoi Hotel – which used to be the headquarters of the first Mexican Embassy in Vietnam (1976-1980).

Additionally, in November, the event “Tequila: Flavors from Mexico to Vietnam” will be held, aimed at importers, distributors and trade partners, under the direct guidance of Tequila expert Gabriela Cañedo.

On this occasion, the Mexican Embassy also coordinated to organize academic activities to emphasize the importance of the bilateral relationship between Mexico and Vietnam, and at the same time put forward practical proposals to promote cooperation.

Specifically, the Academic Conference to explore the potential for developing relations between Mexico and Vietnam, organized by the Vietnam Institute for American Studies (VIAS) and the Mexican Embassy in Vietnam, will take place on April 23 in Hanoi.

The Mexican Embassy is also collaborating with the Matías Romero Institute of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs to compile a collection of essays “Vietnam and Mexico: Towards the Future” with the participation of many renowned scholars from both countries. This collection is expected to be launched in November 2025.

According to Mexican Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Alejandro Negrín, this program of activities not only brings the Vietnamese public closer to Mexico, but also reflects the great potential for cooperation between the two countries. This is truly a special occasion to celebrate the similarities and strong ties between Mexico and Vietnam.

“Over the past 50 years, we have built a strong political and economic relationship with Vietnam, and are now working to deepen that relationship in all aspects,” the Mexican Ambassador shared./.
