Lai Chau with many high mountain peaks and beautiful landscapes has been and is being explored by tourists, including Nam Nhun.
Geographical location and climate of Nam Nhun
Nam Nhun is a mountainous border district of Lai Chau province, located 130km from Lai Chau city and about 600km from Hanoi (via National Highway 12). Traffic has improved significantly in recent years, but because it is located in a mountainous and rugged area, the road to Nam Nhun is quite remote and difficult.

If going from Hanoi by road, we need to move to Lai Chau city and then continue for another 100km (about 3 hours of travel).
Another option if traveling by air, we go to Dien Bien city and travel for more than 2 hours to reach Nam Nhun. The route from Dien Bien is also quite easy and convenient.

The climate of Nam Nhun has the characteristics of the tropical climate of the Northwest highlands, less affected by storms. The weather is divided into two distinct seasons: cold winters with little rain and hot, humid summers with lots of rain.
Population
According to 2018 data, Nam Nhun has a population of over 27,000 people, including 11 ethnic groups living together. Ethnic minorities account for over 95%, of which the Mong ethnic group accounts for 39.6%; the Thai ethnic group 30.8%; the Mang ethnic group 11.33%; and the Cong ethnic group 2.0%.
Due to its geographical location quite far from the capital Hanoi and its rugged terrain, this is generally still a low-income residential area. However, in recent years, with the efforts of the government and the people, people's lives have also improved significantly.

Cuisine
Nam Nhun has a rich source of aquatic products thanks to the Da River. Here, we can easily enjoy dishes made from fish, shrimp, ... in the Da River as well as livestock grown by the locals such as: pork, chicken, duck, buffalo, beef, goat... The cuisine in Nam Nhun has a strong identity of the Northwest mountains.

Tourist attractions to visit: King Le Thai To Temple
According to history, after suppressing the rebels in the Northwest region on the way back through Le Loi commune, Nam Nhun district (present day), to remember this important event and at the same time teach the chieftains who governed the border of the Fatherland, in December of Tan Hoi year - 1431, King Le Thai To had a stele engraved on the cliff to commemorate this event.

The stele was carved on the Pu Huoi Cho cliff on the northern bank of the Da River to be preserved for future generations (historical records call it the Ancient Hoai Lai Stele). The entire stele was carved in Chinese characters, carved within a rectangular frame measuring 1.4m x 0.8m, written in the Khai Chan script consisting of 132 characters. The translated content means:
The fear of migrating enemies on the frontier has existed since ancient times. During the Han Dynasty, there were the Huns, during the Tang Dynasty, there were the Turkic barbarians, and the barbarians in the Muong Le region of our country were the same. Recently, the Tran Dynasty and Ho Dynasty were in decline, and the subjects at the border became stubborn. The Cat Han people were stubborn and refused to change their old ways. Now, we are sending our troops to conquer, advancing by land and water together, and in just one battle, we have pacified them. I will take this opportunity to write a poem and carve it into stone to warn the future barbarian chieftains who are stubborn towards education.

The cliff has now been recognized as a "National Treasure". Visitors can come and worship.
Lai Chau Hydropower
Coming to Nam Nhun Town, where Lai Chau Hydroelectric Plant is located, no one can imagine that a few years ago, from a remote, little-known place, today it has a new look, a tourist destination attracting domestic and foreign visitors.

Standing on the spillway, you can admire the panoramic view of the 3rd largest hydroelectric project in Southeast Asia, the majesty of the Northwest mountains and forests, and the gentle beauty of the Da River. Well operated and exploited, Lai Chau Hydroelectricity not only ensures energy sources for the country but is also an important highlight in the economic development of Lai Chau province in general.

Pu Dao mountain peak belongs to Nam Doong village (Pu Dao commune, Nam Nhun district), about 40km from Nam Nhun district town and more than 10km from Muong Lay town (Dien Bien).
