Traveling from the center of Phan Thiet city to Hon Rom on Highway 706, tourists will see sand dunes resembling the Sahara Desert. The coastal landscape of Binh Thuan, with its existing sand dunes and hills, is particularly unique due to the influence of various factors along each stretch of the coastline. The terrain is fragmented by the end of the Truong Son mountain range jutting out into the sea, forming numerous large and small rocky headlands, interspersed with various landforms such as sand dunes and saline coastal land.
The Mui Ne sand dunes (Phan Thiet City) have long attracted numerous tourists, not only for their magical natural scenery but also for the unique experiences only found there. At the Mui Ne sand dunes tourist area, you can leisurely stroll barefoot on the fine sand, feeling as if you were walking in a real desert. Stretching for many kilometers, the Mui Ne sand dunes cover tens of hectares, retaining a pristine, unspoiled character. The sand surface is sometimes flat, sometimes pleated regularly like layers of waves, occasionally interspersed with patches of wild grass, adding a touch of natural beauty. The sand dunes come in many colors such as red, white, pink, grayish white, and reddish-black... with red and yellow sand making up the majority, while other colors are only present in smaller areas. Each color of sand is found in different areas and is not mixed together, making them easy to distinguish. The sand dunes aren't actually red because of the sand itself, but rather because of the sunlight reflecting off them at sunset, creating a red backdrop.
Standing on the sand dunes, you'll feel the rare cool breeze and enjoy the breathtaking, romantic beauty of the charming beaches of Mui Ne. If you admire the sand dunes from sunrise to sunset, you'll see them change color (from light yellow – dark yellow – reddish yellow… throughout the day) and their shape (wavy, crescent, flat…), often referred to as "flying sand dunes." Only by observing closely can you truly appreciate the magic of the Mui Ne sand dunes. This area is also known as the Mui Ne Golden Sand Dunes or Mui Ne Pink Sand Dunes, because the sand here is predominantly yellow, with shades of pink under the sunlight. However, upon closer inspection, the sand also contains many other colors such as dark red, light red, orange, grayish white, and ivory white… It is thanks to this that talented artists have created artistic sand paintings with vibrant colors.
Tourists enjoy hot tofu from street vendors.
The most popular and considered a "specialty" of these sand dunes is the exciting sandboarding experience. The feeling of sitting on a legendary acrylic board and sliding down the smooth sand at breakneck speed will be an unforgettable experience during your Phan Thiet trip. The rental price for a sandboard ranges from 10,000 to 20,000 VND per board, accommodating up to three people. This is a fun experience not to be missed at this attractive destination. Before starting to sandboard, visitors will receive thorough instructions on the basic techniques from the rental staff. The exhilarating feeling of sandboarding here will surely leave a lasting impression and make you want to conquer even higher sand dunes. However, in our experience, the sand is very hot at midday, so visitors should consider sandboarding in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid burning their feet. Regarding food, the only options here are street vendors selling hot tofu mixed with coconut milk, various sandwiches, soft drinks, and the local specialty "three-cut coconut" from Thien Nghiep - Ham Tien - Mui Ne, sold at the foot of the hill. After a fun time playing games, enjoying a refreshing Siamese coconut to quench your thirst or sampling the local specialties will create beautiful memories of your visit and experience at this beautiful sand dune.
