New research by Dr. Eleanor Bryant, Associate Professor of Psychology, University of Bradford (UK) has revealed that a cup of coffee is the secret to happiness for millions of people, according to the University of Cambridge news site ( Cambridge News ).
Drinking coffee is not only an indispensable morning habit or a meeting with friends, but also a social experience that brings people together.
Dr. Bryant says coffee makes people happier because of its effects on the brain's feedback mechanisms.
Essentially, coffee affects receptors in the brain by making them more open to happy signals.
“We all know that enjoying a good cup of coffee is a meaningful experience for many people. However, when we set out to explore why more and more people are switching to coffee, we unexpectedly discovered the secret to happiness,” Dr. Bryant shared.
Research shows that more than three-quarters of the British population drink coffee every day
Essentially, the caffeine in coffee can enhance brain function, improving mood, alertness, performance, memory and concentration. This can indirectly lead to an increase in happy neurotransmitters, increasing feelings of pleasure, Dr. Bryant added.
Dr Bryant's research also found that more than three-quarters of the British population drink coffee, with most people drinking an average of three cups a day.
In addition, a US survey of more than 1,300 people in early 2024 also showed that nearly three-quarters of Americans drink coffee every day and 36% of people drink 3-5 cups a day, according to Cambridge News.
