Although it's still more than 10 days away from its grand opening, the Bac Lieu Provincial Museum is already attracting the attention of both locals and tourists. This is because it's not only a cultural project commemorating the 50th anniversary of the reunification of Vietnam, but also the province's first digitized museum, offering visitors exciting experiences in exploring Bac Lieu's past and present.

VISIT ON A DIGITAL PLATFORM

Instead of just viewing artifacts or listening to traditional explanations, from April 26th, visitors to the Bac Lieu Provincial Museum will have the opportunity to learn about the land and people of Bac Lieu on a digital platform. Located inside the Cultural and Art Exhibition Center and Cao Van Lau Theater, the new museum is designed in an open space, with many sections applying digital solutions to bring the most vivid images of Bac Lieu from the smoke and fire of war to its period of development.

According to the design, the first floor of the Bac Lieu Provincial Museum is dedicated to thematic exhibitions on the province's history, administrative boundaries, and natural environment. The second floor opens up a fascinating space, introducing visitors to the Oc Eo culture and the distinctive cultural identity of the three ethnic groups: Kinh, Khmer, and Hoa. Finally, the third floor features thematic exhibitions on the revolutionary history of the Party Committee, army, and people of Bac Lieu during the two wars of resistance against France and the United States, and Bac Lieu's development.

The museum's highlight lies not only in its recreation of Bac Lieu's past and present but also in the digitization of artifacts and documents. Built according to the model of a modern museum, interactive screens are placed in many locations inside to enhance the connection between visitors and cultural heritage. The digitized artifacts will provide 3D and 4D images, offering multi-dimensional and close-up views of the artifacts that traditional museums cannot provide.

Mr. Pham Duc Han, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AVEW Investment and Construction Group Joint Stock Company - the contractor for the provincial museum's technology solutions, said: "Given the limited investment budget and numerous difficulties in converting the museum's function from an exhibition center to a museum, implementing digital transformation solutions for the provincial museum is a major commitment of the province to keep pace with the trend of modern museum development. Visiting the museum on a digital platform will provide the public with an exciting experience, with a more engaging and captivating way to access artifacts and historical documents."

CREATE A FILE FOR THE ARTIFACT

The provincial museum and heritage management officials are very excited about the upcoming inauguration of the new museum. This is because the previous provincial museum was an old building constructed over a century ago, with dilapidated facilities and equipment that no longer met the requirements for preserving artifacts. Furthermore, the lack of investment in technology prevented the old museum from fully showcasing the historical and cultural value of its heritage.

According to Mr. Le Thanh Tu, Director of the Provincial Museum, the museum currently stores over 6,000 physical artifacts, documents, images, and DVDs. Of particular note are five national treasures, including bronze artifacts such as the Sadashiva statue, the Shiva head, and the male deity statue, which are highly susceptible to temperature changes. Without proper preservation, many artifacts are at risk of damage. Therefore, digitizing the documentation will create a unique information file for each artifact, leading to the development of a database system to improve archiving and support museum research activities.

Despite the limited scale of investment, the initial application of technology has enabled Bac Lieu to have its first digital museum; gradually concretizing the Party and State's guidelines, policies, and laws aimed at effectively preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of our ancestors. It also serves as a unique place to educate the younger generation about the province's historical and cultural traditions and is an attractive tourist product for visitors from near and far.
