From November 17-26, the photo exhibition "Hanoi - a land of good birds" was held at the Octagonal House, Ly Thai To Flower Garden, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi.

The photo exhibition is organized by the For a Livable Hanoi Network (VMHNDS) and the Vietnam Wild Bird Research and Conservation Society (VBCS) with financial and technical support from the Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam.

The event introduces to viewers 35 species of wild, resident and migratory birds photographed in Hanoi. These are works taken by members of VBCS.

Speaking at the opening ceremony on the afternoon of November 17, Mr. Le Manh Hung, Chairman of VBCS said: “Birds play an important role in all aspects of human life, from participating in balancing the ecosystem (an important component in the food chain), helping in agricultural production (exterminating insects and harmful organisms, dispersing fruits and seeds), being environmental indicators... to contributing to improving spiritual life (often appearing in literary and spiritual works)”.

However, hunting and habitat loss are seriously affecting the survival of many species. Therefore, the Photo Exhibition is organized to introduce the beauty of some wild birds in Hanoi.

Through the Exhibition, the Organizing Committee hopes that the community will appreciate and love wild birds in general and those of Hanoi in particular, thereby raising awareness of environmental protection, preventing hunting of birds, practicing a lifestyle in harmony with nature, respecting the biological world and enriching their lives by strengthening the connection between people and nature.

In particular, the Exhibition is held within the framework of the "Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2023" organized by the Hanoi People's Committee and the Vietnam Association of Architects.

Ms. Pham Thi Lan Anh, Head of Cultural Heritage Management Department, Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, affirmed: "The exhibition is creatively designed according to green trends, no littering after display.

Instead of printing on regular posters and then throwing them away after the exhibition, we produced them into public information signs, which are expected to be installed in suitable green spaces in Hanoi.

Thus, the exhibition will continue to provide long-term information to the people of the Capital. The images and information of the birds produced by the VMHNDS and VBCS networks are beautiful and of suitable size for visitors of many ages, which meets an important criterion that creative products need to be easily accessible to different population groups of the Capital.

Mr. Le Quang Binh - Coordinator of the VMHNDS network, also shared: "Communicating to people is very important because when people understand and love birds in nature, they will appreciate ecology and join hands to protect the environment for birds to live.

This is exactly what VMHNDS wants, because we believe that when people join hands with the government and community organizations, we can turn Hanoi into a livable land for every person and every creature."

At the opening ceremony, Ms. Mette Ekeroth - Deputy Ambassador of Denmark to Vietnam emphasized the importance of promoting an environmentally friendly approach to urbanization, which is also the Danish people's view of valuing nature.

“Living in harmony with nature creates a deep connection between people and the environment, improves our health and creates a balance between urban life and the beauty of nature,” she said.

Cities in Denmark, such as Copenhagen, have been promoting biodiversity, creating a city where people can enjoy and experience living in harmony with nature”.

The exhibition “Hanoi, a land of good birds” is a collective effort, each side contributing its small part to develop Hanoi into a creative, sustainable city, inclusive of all people and all living things.

On the opening day, there was also a discussion with the authors whose photos were on display, introducing some of the bird species in the exhibition and the reasons why the authors took photos of birds in nature.

Here, the authors also shared about the importance of birds, the risks of ecological degradation to birds and the necessity of not hunting birds and protecting habitats.

Hanoi records many different species of wild birds, including both resident and migratory. The middle of the Red River alone, flowing through Hanoi City, has nearly 200 species of migratory birds and more than 40 species of resident birds.
