On July 21, the Hung Vuong Museum, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Phu Tho in coordination with the National Museum of History organized the announcement of the preliminary report on the excavation results of the Go Chon archaeological site.
This site belongs to the Go Mun culture period, discovered in 1967 in area 1, Dan Quyen commune, Tam Nong district but has been leveled. In 2021, the survey team determined that the Go Chon site still has the potential to be excavated and researched.
After more than 1 month of excavation (from May to June 2023), more than 3,000 pieces of domestic pottery, many broken pieces of tools and traces of domestic kitchens were found... proving that ancient residents had lived here for a long time and continuously. The period belongs to the mid-Go Mun culture, about 3000 - 2800 years BC, existing for several hundred years.
Since its discovery, the site has only been used for farming, so it has been well preserved and there is still room for further expansion and research. Scientists recommend that there should be planning and zoning measures to protect and preserve the site, and early investment in large-scale excavation to collect valuable relics and artifacts underground.
