The two state-owned giants Vietcombank and BIDV only sell SJC gold bars to customers who have opened accounts at the bank.
From July 29, Vietcombank announced that it will only sell gold bars online to individual customers who have an active payment account at the bank. Customers who do not have one need to open an account at Vietcombank before registering to buy gold.
Vietcombank explained that this change is to improve service quality and manage customer information, as well as develop cashless payments. In addition to "tightening" the conditions for registration to buy, the bank also changed its gold delivery policy. Accordingly, gold bars will not be delivered after customers register to buy online and complete payment at the branch. The bank will deliver the gold on the next working day. This, according to the bank, is to "ensure the transportation of gold bars is convenient and safe".
Talk to VnExpress , a representative of Vietcombank said that this additional regulation only applies to online registration to buy SJC gold bars, and does not change the payment process or delivery of gold bars. "Customers still use cash when making transactions, but they need to transfer to a payment account at the bank counter and transfer money to complete the gold purchase," said a representative of Vietcombank.
Previously in June, BIDV also announced that it would only sell SJC gold bars to customers who already had accounts opened at the bank. The money in the customer's account must be enough to pay for the amount of gold registered to buy.
The two remaining state-owned banks, Vietinbank and Agribank, have not yet announced any changes to the conditions for buying gold online. They still allow customers to buy gold even if they do not have an account opened at the bank.
Since early June, the State Bank has increased supply to the market, through entrusting direct gold sales to four state-owned banks and SJC, to cool down the gap between gold price piece with the world.
After a period of "overload" due to queuing at transaction offices, banks and SJC switched to distributing online numbers to customers and limiting the amount of purchases per time.
However, registering to buy gold directly at the four state-owned banks and SJC has not been easy in recent times. The websites of the banks and SJC have been constantly "rotating" since opening to allow registration to buy, and have also quickly run out of turns after just a few minutes. These units also limit each person to buy a maximum of 1 tael of gold.
