Although Indian tourists are increasingly choosing Vietnam as a destination, figures show that Vietnam is still not in the top 5 foreign tourism markets for Indian tourists.

Mr. Phuoc Dang - CEO of Outbox Company - said Indian market Total outbound tourism spending in 2023 is expected to reach 33.3 billion USD, an increase of nearly 50% compared to 2019 and is the market with the highest post-pandemic growth in Asia as well as globally.
"A group of more than 4,500 tourists is about to travel Vietnam will certainly attract attention to the tourism industry. But in reality, Vietnam is not currently a top priority or favorite destination for tourists from this country.
This figure is even more noteworthy because more than two-thirds of Indian tourists choose Asian destinations for their next trip. Of which, three countries in Southeast Asia in the top five destinations for Indian tourists do not have Vietnam on their list," Mr. Phuoc Dang shared.
In 2019, the three most popular destinations for Indians were Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. However, after the pandemic, travel trends changed along with the open policies of countries, the three countries of Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia became the priority choices of Indian tourists.
Currently, Malaysia and Thailand are two of the countries that exempt visas for Indians. Meanwhile, Singapore is also looking to exploit this flow of visitors with a favorable visa policy, such as Indian tourists' visa applications to enter the island nation are processed within 3 days. Not only is the visa policy more competitive, but flights connecting the Indian market with the above countries are also busier.
According to Mr. Phuoc, the Indian market also has cultural differences compared to Vietnam, so this is also a market with different and complex behaviors and needs. Therefore, to welcome this wave of visitors, tourism businesses must understand and evaluate the preferences and tastes of Indians.
For example, with 4,500 guests coming to Vietnam, a representative of Vietravel said that the issue of food for the group has been flexibly adjusted and arranged, emphasizing vegetarianism and non-vegetarianism in the preparation process, abstaining from meat depending on beliefs and religions.
Ms. Huynh Phan Phuong Hoang - Deputy General Director of Vietravel - said that welcoming a large group of Indian tourists was the result of a process of investment and building a clear strategy to attract potential customers.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietravel has identified India as a potential market and has carried out many promotional activities as well as deployed personnel in this market.
Accordingly, the company has a representative office and branch in India to approach and introduce beautiful tours to Indian tourists. Discover Vietnam with good quality and cost savings.
"Compared to Thailand or Malaysia, Vietnam is still a new destination for Indian tourists, and when marketing and promotional activities reach Indian tourists, the flow of visitors will shift to Vietnam," Ms. Phuong Hoang believes.
Vietnam is the most searched by Indians According to data from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, in 2023, Vietnam welcomed more than 392,000 Indian visitors, an increase of 231% compared to 2019. However, in just the first 6 months of 2024, our country welcomed 231,000 Indian visitors, an increase of 164% compared to the same period in 2023. India is currently one of the 10 largest international tourist markets for Vietnam. Last year, Vietnam was the most searched destination by Indians on Google. |
