On August 3rd, sharing his thoughts at a press conference in Hanoi to introduce the program honoring composer Van Cao, Major General and composer Nguyen Duc Trinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Musicians Association, emphasized: “The 'Vietnamese Birds' Music Night' transcends ordinary art programs; it is an artistic event for fans and the public to remember the portrait of a talented artist in many fields such as literature and art. Van Cao's compositional talent and artistic achievements, especially the song 'Tien Quan Ca' - the national anthem of Vietnam, have enriched the national art treasury.”
The Musicians' Association, in collaboration with various organizations, held an art program to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of composer Van Cao. |
The "Vietnamese Birds" program brings together well-known works by Van Cao in all three genres: love songs, marches, and epics such as "Thien Thai," "Buon Tan Thu," "Truong Chi," "Lang Toi," "Mua Xuan Dau Tien," "Truong Ca Song Lo," "Tien Quan Ca," etc. A special feature of the program is the musical reenactment of the song "Tien Quan Ca" on stage in front of 19-8 Square (in front of the Hanoi Opera House).
According to the program's General Director, Pham Hoang Nam, with all their dedication, the production team will strive to deliver a high-quality, creative, and truly artistic evening that captures the spirit of Van Cao's art. New arrangements, many modern artistic techniques, and a large-scale event taking place both inside and outside the Grand Theatre, featuring performances by over 300 actors, will make "Dan Chim Viet" a truly highlight artistic event in the historic month of August and a celebration of Independence Day on September 2nd.
The program featured many renowned artists such as People's Artist Quang Thọ, People's Artist Quốc Hưng, singers Đăng Dương, Thanh Lam, Ánh Tuyết, Mỹ Linh, and others... |
Born on November 15th in Hai Phong , Van Cao, then a soldier of the Viet Minh Honor Guard, was only 22 years old. Previously known only for his love songs, he rose to fame in the Vietnamese New Music scene in the late 1930s. A talented poet and romantic musician, he enriched his musical legacy with heroic songs and completed his artistic portrait with boundless talent across genres.
The program aims to recreate the portrait of composer Van Cao through music. |
Also during those August days, there was a moment that went down in the history of Vietnamese music: August 18, 1945, when the song "Tiến quân ca" ( Marching Song) was first sung before a vast crowd in the square in front of the Hanoi Opera House and became known as the national anthem of Vietnam. A national anthem for a nation undergoing a revolution to change its destiny, and Văn Cao was the author of that national anthem.
From those August days, the name of composer Van Cao became inextricably linked to the history of Vietnamese music and the history of the Vietnamese nation as a great talent of exceptional character. His presence in Vietnamese literature and art brought not only valuable works but also a legacy of his personality for a generation of patriots, full of ideals, and above all, wholeheartedly devoted to national independence.
He was awarded the First Class Resistance Medal, the First Class Independence Medal, the Ho Chi Minh Medal, and the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts (first round, 1996) by the Party and the State.
