DNVN - On November 20, a working delegation from Saigon Port - SSA International Container Services Joint Venture Company Limited (SSIT Port) visited and learned about the actual results of digital transformation to serve management and business operations at Da Nang Port.

Digital transformation brings many benefits to Da Nang Port

The delegation of SSIT Port led by Deputy General Director Phan Hoang Vu was introduced by the leaders of Da Nang Port specifically about the smart port management system, which helps monitor and manage port operations effectively. At the same time, they learned in depth about the ERP software system applied to human resource management, cargo safety monitoring and operating procedures at Da Nang Port.

“Da Nang Port has oriented and focused on developing and applying IT to production, digitizing all stages of the operational process, especially focusing on container cargo. Pioneering digital transformation in the Vietnamese seaport system has brought many benefits to Da Nang Port, reducing costs and increasing added value for customers,” said Deputy General Director of Da Nang Port Duong Duc Xuan.

Accordingly, the automatic container gate system (Autogate) at Tien Sa port area was researched and successfully deployed by Da Nang Port in March 2021. This is also the first port in Vietnam to successfully deploy automatic container gates. In addition, the application of technology to QC cranes helps ensure safety in operation and prevents container collisions during loading and unloading.

The automated crane tracking system (eCPS) at Da Nang Port also made a strong impression on the SSIT Port delegation. This is a precise, high-speed tracking system that is more compact than traditional tracking systems thanks to the use of artificial intelligence.

eCps uses industrial cameras connected to a system configured to be able to recognize objects using artificial intelligence; infer production plans; vote on representative points of objects; calculate coordinates; display coordinates; track objects; process images; monitor operations.

Along with that, the industrial equipment on the eTractor tractor to receive command signals from the TOS system, then process and transmit to the terminal device to display to the driver is recognized as an adaptive solution and has high usability in the industrial mining environment.

“With this project, Da Nang Port plays the role of both the design unit and the production and assembly management unit for both hardware and software. The equipment researched and successfully applied by Da Nang Port since April 2023 has brought in billions of dong in profits each year,” said Mr. Duong Duc Xuan.

According to Mr. Phan Hoang Vu, SSIT Port’s visit and work at Da Nang Port has created a valuable opportunity for both sides to learn and share experiences. The exchange of information on safety, technology and IT not only helps improve the operational efficiency of each port but also contributes to the sustainable development of Vietnam’s logistics industry.

3 pillars of development of Da Nang Port

Also on November 20, Da Nang Port welcomed a delegation from the Department of Road Transport (Ministry of Transport of Thailand) led by Ms. Wanpen Kachornklin - Director General, who visited and learned about issues related to port operations, logistics, and transportation of transit, oversized, and overweight cargo...

Mr. Duong Duc Xuan said that Da Nang Port develops based on 3 pillars: seaport, logistics and tourism/services. In which, seaport is the main business sector; promoting logistics activities to enhance the competitiveness of seaports through concentrating cargo sources; developing tourism services in the direction of maximizing the advantages of existing resources and the ability to develop in the future.

According to Ms. Wanpen Kachornklin, Da Nang Port is not only one of the most important seaports in Vietnam but also a bridge between countries in the Southeast Asian region. She hopes that the two sides will continue to share experiences and technologies and jointly develop solutions to enhance port operational efficiency as well as optimize the supply chain and enhance port competitiveness.
