The conference “Connecting trade, displaying and introducing medicinal products in 2024” aims to create opportunities for exchange and connection between medicinal plant production cooperatives with exporting enterprises and trade promotion organizations. At the same time, promote Vietnamese medicinal products, develop brands and expand distribution channels. Localities share models of cooperation in production and consumption of medicinal products according to sustainable value chains, increasing the added value of domestic medicinal products.

President of Vietnam Cooperative Alliance Cao Xuan Thu Van spoke at the conference.

Speaking at the conference, Chairman of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance Cao Xuan Thu Van said: Implementing Resolution No. 20-NQ/TW dated October 25, 2017 of the 12th Central Executive Committee, the medicinal herbs industry has been identified as a priority development sector with specific policies to promote production, preservation, processing and gradually reduce dependence on imported raw materials. According to Decision No. 376/QD-TTg dated March 17, 2021 of the Prime Minister, the goal is also to build large-scale and sustainable medicinal herb growing areas, increase the use of domestic raw materials and increase the localization rate of domestically produced drugs.

Currently, the collective economic sector, especially cooperatives, plays an important role in the development of the medicinal materials industry. The country has more than 600 cooperatives producing medicinal materials, providing raw materials for processing and export factories. Medicinal products meeting OCOP standards from 3 to 5 stars such as Ngoc Linh ginseng, ginkgo, Solanum procumbens, Panax pseudoginseng, Gotu kola... have not only affirmed their position domestically but also opened up great opportunities in the international market.

In order for the medicinal plant industry to become a sustainable technical economic sector and meet market demand, Chairman of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance Cao Xuan Thu Van suggested that localities need to promote the development of large-scale growing areas, complying with international standards on quality, origin and growing area codes. In particular, it is necessary to build a model of linking production and consumption according to the value chain, taking advantage of the strengths of the collective economic sector and cooperatives. Today's conference is a valuable opportunity for cooperatives, export enterprises and trade promotion organizations to meet, exchange and promote cooperation.

Presentation sessions and thematic seminars were held by experts in the medicinal industry to discuss the current situation of the Vietnamese medicinal industry, the conservation and exploitation of medicinal materials, along with solutions for sustainable development of the medicinal industry in the coming time. The Trade Connection Program created opportunities for businesses, manufacturers, and raw material buyers to meet, sign cooperation agreements and expand domestic and international distribution channels.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Giang spoke at the conference.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Giang introduced the main features of the natural, economic and social conditions of Thanh Hoa province. Currently, the whole Thanh Hoa province has about 5,000 hectares of medicinal herbs grown on annual crop land and about more than 94,000 hectares planted under forest canopy with about 1,000 types of trees mainly concentrated in mountainous districts. In processing medicinal herbs, Thanh Hoa has so far 1 Oriental medicine factory, meeting GMP (Thanh Hoa Pharmaceutical - Medical Supplies Joint Stock Company); 2 Oriental medicine production facilities that have not met GMP (Ba Gieng medicine production facility, sports medicine production facility); 1 medicinal herb trading company (Thanh Hoa Pharmaceutical - Medical Supplies Joint Stock Company); 4 medicinal herb wholesale establishments (Thinh Thao, Thao Son, Son Lam, Na Bon business households); 84 retail establishments of medicinal herbs, traditional medicine ingredients...

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Giang emphasized that the Government and the Prime Minister have issued many mechanisms and policies to encourage investment in the development of medicinal herbs and programs to develop the medicinal herb industry. Localities have had mechanisms to promote and encourage economic sectors to invest in the fields of cultivation, preliminary processing, processing and preservation of domestic medicinal herbs through rural and mountainous development projects and the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program, but investment resources are still very limited.

However, the products are still mostly self-sufficient locally, due to fragmented, spontaneous production methods, lack of regional linkages, value chain linkages and especially lack of international market information. Domestic medicinal products lack competitiveness, due to little investment in research to prove safety and effectiveness. Enterprises operating in the medicinal field are small in scale, have weak competitiveness, invest little in researching international market demand, have not participated in the global herbal supply chain, and have not built a brand.

Therefore, today's conference is useful for enterprises and cooperatives in the production, processing and trading of medicinal herbs nationwide to have the opportunity to connect and cooperate in the development of medicinal herb production and processing. At the same time, it helps state management agencies have appropriate orientations for the development of the medicinal herb processing industry, and scientists and experts have research orientations in line with market trends...
