Recently, on social networks, an image of a glass of Katinat water with a sticker saying "Giam An Tay" instead of "Giam Da" as usual has been circulating. This image immediately made many internet users express their indignation, saying that this is an insensitive and "unclean" way of using a controversial concept.
In response to the backlash from the online community, Katinat posted a press release in the early morning of November 20 to explain the incident. The brand also decided to disable the comments section below the post to limit possible debate and misinformation.
According to information from Katinat, at around 2:45 p.m. on November 18, an employee at the Katinat store at Diamond Residence Le Van Luong (Hanoi) arbitrarily added inappropriate content to the drink label, violating the company's regulations. The glass of water with this label was then delivered to the customer.
The coffee chain acknowledged the seriousness of the incident, which not only affected customers but also damaged the brand's reputation. After investigating the incident, Katinat decided to fire the offending employee and reminded the store manager about not properly controlling operations at the facility.
Katinat also committed to reviewing all operating procedures and brand standards across the system to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. At the same time, they have directly contacted customers who received products with incorrect labels and sent sincere apologies.
The company asserted that the action was an outburst by an employee, a personal joke, and a serious violation of the brand's service standards.
"Katinat deeply regrets the incident and would like to sincerely apologize to the affected individuals, customers and the entire community for this incident," the company's press release said.
Why is it "An Tay" reduction instead of stone reduction?
According to many social media users, "An Tay" is the name of a famous model and actress who is currently being detained for investigation in connection with a drug party. Many people believe that Katinat has taken advantage of this controversial concept to "attract customers" and attract attention in an inappropriate way.
This is not the first time Katinat has been in trouble for inappropriate language. In mid-September, the brand also faced strong public backlash when it launched a media campaign to raise funds to support northerners affected by Typhoon Yagi.
According to the campaign, 1,000 VND from each glass of water sold will be donated to help flood victims. Many people think that Katinat's campaign is not really effective and doubt the brand's true purpose.
