The militant group Hamas has accused Israel of stepping up attacks on Gaza to try to sabotage peace talks by Arab mediators and the United States. Israel says it is trying to root out Hamas militants.
In Rafah, a southern border town where Israeli forces have been operating since May, five Palestinians were killed in an airstrike on a house, Gaza health officials said. In nearby Khan Younis, a man, his wife and two children were killed.

Then on Tuesday, an Israeli airstrike on a car killed at least 17 Palestinians and wounded 26 others in Khan Younis, officials said.
At least four Palestinians were killed in shelling and other airstrikes in the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza, according to medical workers. An Israeli airstrike also killed four people in Sheikh Zayed in northern Gaza.
Hours later, health officials said an Israeli airstrike on a UN-run school housing displaced families in the Nuseirat camp killed 23 people and wounded many more.
The Gaza media office said local journalist Mohammad Meshmesh was among those killed, bringing the total number of journalists killed in the conflict to 160.
"Where is the safety of the agency's schools? There are no more agency safe schools, or safe clinics, no more safe houses, no more safe streets," said witness Umm Omar Ahmed at Nuseirat camp.
On Tuesday, the Israeli military said it had killed half of the leadership of the Hamas militant group, with some 14,000 militants killed or captured since the fighting in Gaza began.
At least 38,713 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since October 7, Gaza health authorities said in their latest update on Tuesday. Israel also said 326 of its soldiers had been killed in Gaza.
