On November 13, the Israeli army announced that six soldiers "fell in fighting in southern Lebanon". According to AFP news agency, this was one of Israel's bloodiest days in its ground offensive against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The incident brings the total number of Israeli soldiers killed in fighting with Hezbollah to 47 since September 30, when Israel sent ground forces into Lebanon.
The military announcement came after newly appointed Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said there would be no relaxation in the fight against Hezbollah.
On the same day, during a visit to Lebanon and meeting with host country Prime Minister Najib Mikati in the capital Beirut, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasized Cairo's commitment to protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Middle Eastern country.
Mr. Abdelatty highlighted Cairo's efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, seeing it as key to de-escalation in the region.
He also stressed to Prime Minister Mikati that Egypt is in contact with relevant regional and international parties to prevent Israeli military actions that violate Lebanon's sovereignty and to promote the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
For his part, Lebanese Prime Minister Mikati stressed the priority of a peaceful solution based on the implementation of Resolution 1701, adding that Israel must take responsibility for its full implementation.
He also pledged to increase the Lebanese army's presence in the south in coordination with the United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
On the same day, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said that the US had received additional commitments from Israel regarding the Gaza Strip and wanted to see these commitments followed.
This, he said, would help continue to address issues including humanitarian assistance, ensuring Israel's defenses against Iranian attacks, launching efforts to reach a ceasefire and release hostages in Gaza, or bringing about a diplomatic solution to the situation in Lebanon.
