A peaceful, prosperous and strongly developing Vietnam today brings hope to Israel for a bright future. That was the affirmation of Israeli Ambassador Yaron Mayer at the celebration of the 76th anniversary of Israel's Independence Day in Ho Chi Minh City on the evening of June 18.
Israel's first Prime Minister , David Ben-Gurion, declared the country's independence on May 15, 1948, a historic moment that marked the fulfillment of the Jewish people's 2,000-year aspiration to have a homeland of their own.
This year's celebration honors the courage and heroism of the Israeli people, which have shaped Israel's history and the challenges to survival the country has had to overcome since its founding.
On this occasion, Israelis around the world come together to celebrate the founding of their nation and its advances in technology, innovation, culture and more. Israel has become a vibrant democracy, a leader in scientific advancement, and an important contributor to global society.
Israel and Vietnam have established diplomatic relations for 31 years, culminating in the signing of the Vietnam-Israel Free Trade Agreement last year, paving the way for unprecedented growth in two-way trade. In 2023, trade turnover between the two countries reached a record $2.7 billion.
Israel's startup support programs have promoted many Vietnamese startups through exchanges and training with Israeli experts.
During the ceremony, Israeli pianist Oren Dashti performed a series of songs specially composed for the event, including a duet of Vietnamese folk songs with a Vietnamese violinist. The soundtrack for the event was specially composed by Israel's renowned Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.
