The situation in the Middle East is escalating as fierce fighting continues across the Israel-Lebanon border, while the Gaza Strip has yet to show clear signs of a complete ceasefire. Iran has recently indicated a way to promote a resolution of the regional situation.

According to Iran's IRNA news agency on November 14, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that dialogue between Middle Eastern countries is a key factor in promoting cooperation and resolving regional challenges.

“We have common concerns and interests. We all recognize the importance of cooperation and coordination to deal with major challenges in the region. Dialogue is not merely an option but a must,” Mr. Araghchi stressed.

On the same day, Mr. Ali Asghar Khaji - Senior Advisor to Foreign Minister Araghchi - affirmed that the country will exercise its right to self-defense against Israeli airstrikes when deemed necessary.

"Israel's actions (against Iran) are a violation of the UN Charter and international law, an infringement on our sovereignty. Self-defense is our legitimate right. We believe that we can exercise this right at the time and in the manner we see fit," Khaji said.

In addition, Iran announced its support for Russia's efforts to secure a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.

Previously, Russian President's Special Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev said that Moscow is working to end the violence in Lebanon, whereby Israel and Hezbollah will withdraw their troops behind the Green Line dividing the territory between the two sides.

"We welcome any solution and any step that will stop the killing of civilians, attacks on economic and urban infrastructure and will help establish a ceasefire. Whether it is Russia or any other party that can stop the conflict, we support it," said the Iranian foreign minister's adviser.

Asked if Tehran was negotiating with Moscow on a ceasefire in Lebanon, Khaji said consultations with Russia were ongoing on all issues and “no issue is exempt”.
