With Apple adding the iPhone 6s and Mac mini 2018 to its list of legacy products, they can still receive repair service, but only if parts are available.
iPhone 6s added to Apple's "old" product list |
The original iPhone 6s was released in 2015, but Apple continued to sell it until 2018, which is why it's only now being added to the legacy list.
The iPhone 6s uses the A9 chip and features a reinforced aluminum frame to address the iPhone 6's "bendgate" design flaw. It's also the first iPhone to feature 3D Touch and the last high-end Apple phone to feature a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Meanwhile, the 2018 Mac mini was released before Apple switched to silicon and was actually the last Mac mini to feature an Intel chip inside. It was powered by Intel’s “Coffee Lake” chipset with 4-core and 6-core options, paired with Intel UHD Graphics 630.
Apple considers a device “vintage” five years after it was discontinued for sale. Apple and Apple Authorized Service Providers sometimes offer repairs for older devices, but only if parts are available. After seven years from the date of last sale, the device is considered “obsolete.” Apple Stores and AASPs typically do not repair obsolete products, and the company no longer provides parts for them.
