The latest rumors show that the iPhone 17 Pro will be upgraded by Apple with many outstanding features compared to the iPhone 16 Pro.
New design and materials
The Information's source said that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will switch to an aluminum frame, helping to reduce weight and create a thinner and lighter feel than previous versions.
The iPhone Pro lines before the iPhone 15 Pro used a stainless steel frame, and from the iPhone 15 Pro to the iPhone 16 Pro use titanium.
Recently revealed renders also show that the iPhone 17 Pro Max has a new design.
Russian YouTube channel Wylsacom recently posted simulated images of the iPhone 17 Pro Max based on leaked information from the supply chain. Accordingly, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have a horizontal camera bar on the back, similar to the camera layout of the Google Pixel 9.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature a 6.9-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The display will still have the Dynamic Island of its predecessor, but will be significantly more compact thanks to Apple's integration of metalens technology into the Face ID system.
Rear camera cluster
Although there are rumors that Apple will change the rear camera cluster design to a horizontal bar for the new iPhone Pro line, Macrumors' source said that the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to continue using the traditional triangular camera cluster design.
Since the iPhone XS with its vertical camera cluster, the rear camera design of the Pro line has remained virtually unchanged. Leaked information up to now is not reliable enough to show that Apple will have a new design with the rear camera cluster.
One notable change is that the rear camera cluster of the iPhone 17 Pro will be larger. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the telephoto camera on the iPhone 17 Pro Max will use a 48MP sensor measuring 1/2.6 inches, an improvement over the 12MP 1/3.1 inch of the iPhone 16 Pro.
Strong configuration
As usual, the new iPhone Pro models will use new chips. The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are said to use the A19 Pro processor, manufactured on TSMC's latest 3rd generation 3nm process (N3P).
According to Macrumors, the N3P process increases the density of transistors on the chip compared to the 2nd generation (N3E) of the A18 chip, helping to improve performance and save energy.
According to 9to5mac, for the first time Apple will equip 12GB RAM for iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, a 50% increase compared to 8GB on iPhone 16 Pro, improving performance and multitasking capabilities.
9to5mac's source added that Apple plans to use its own Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max to optimize the device's performance.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Air will likely be equipped with a 5G modem developed by Apple itself, while the 17 Pro models will still use Qualcomm's modem for another year.
Remove physical SIM slot
Apple may remove the physical SIM slot on the iPhone 17, promoting the use of eSIM, making the device design more compact and increasing water resistance.
These improvements show that Apple is working to bring new and advanced experiences to iPhone users.
If nothing changes from the annual tradition, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be announced in September 2025 along with the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air. Apple is expected to have many breakthrough upgrades, not only in design but also in technology and new features, making the iPhone 17 Pro the super smartphone of 2025.
