Director General Min Usihen affirmed that Indonesia will also support the development of an ASEAN action plan on intellectual property rights after 2025 to anticipate the emergence of new technologies.
“Indonesia has become a leading country in implementing copyright-related initiatives outlined in the ASEAN IPR Action Plan 2016-2025,” she said.
The official further noted that Indonesia has been playing a prominent role in formulating action plans related to genetic resources, traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expressions, as demonstrated by its experience in protecting intellectual property rights in the context of cultural diversity.
The Indonesian Intellectual Property Office signed a cooperation agreement with the World Intellectual Property Organization on July 7 to establish an intellectual property training facility called the “IP Academy.” The government believes that the IP Academy will facilitate the public and stakeholders to obtain information on intellectual property rights.
“Therefore, stakeholders need to fully understand the issues related to intellectual property so that they can optimize their intellectual property rights for their business without infringing on the intellectual property rights of others,” she explained.
Stressing that efforts to disseminate information about intellectual property rights to young people are essential to support the development of the creative economy, the head of the Indonesian Intellectual Property Office, Usihen, hopes to promote cooperation with the ASEAN IP Academy as well as ASEAN member countries that have established IP academies.
The WGIPC is a forum for discussing a wide range of regional issues, including preparations for negotiations on a new Intellectual Property Framework Agreement and the development of an action plan on intellectual property rights.
