Regarding her family's aquaculture model, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen (Thien Phien commune) said: "Grasping the market demand, in 2017, from the family's savings and the support of the Commune Farmers' Association, I switched from commercial fish farming to Koi fish farming with an area of nearly 3 hectares. After a few failures, I gained experience in farming and gradually approached the market. Up to now, I have maintained the pond area and linked with people inside and outside the commune to raise Koi fish with an area of nearly 10 hectares. Every year from raising Koi fish, my family earns a profit of nearly 300 million VND".
From the model of aquaculture combined with livestock and fruit tree growing, Mr. Tran Quang Thang's family in Hung Dao commune has risen to become rich on their homeland.
Mr. Thang said: My family converted to develop the VAC model with an area of more than 1 hectare, of which the fish farming area is more than 5 sao. Previously, I raised fish extensively, each year I harvested one batch, sometimes almost 2 years to harvest once. Although there were still commercial fish to harvest, the productivity and quality were not high. Since mastering intensive farming techniques, my family has renovated the pond to raise fish. Thanks to that, for the past 5 years, from the fish farming area, combined with livestock farming and fruit tree planting, my family has earned over 200 million VND in profit each year.
Currently, aquaculture in Tien Lu district is developed in two forms, which are intensive aquaculture and aquaculture combined with livestock and fruit tree cultivation. In recent times, the district has promoted propaganda and supported aquaculture households to apply science and technology, and raise aquaculture according to VietGAP. In recent years, the district has actively promoted and supported people to establish cooperatives and cooperative groups to form concentrated aquaculture areas, in the direction of goods and production linkage. Up to now, 70% of the intensive aquaculture area in the district applies high technology; 40 hectares of aquaculture are certified VietGAP. In the district, 2 cooperatives and 3 production linkage cooperatives have been established in the aquaculture sector.
Mr. Nguyen Van Kieu, Director of Doan Ket Aquaculture Cooperative, Cuong Chinh Commune, said: In 2018, I mobilized a number of fish farming households in the commune to establish a cooperative. Up to now, the cooperative has attracted 10 members to participate with a concentrated farming area of over 3 hectares. To improve the efficiency of fish farming, along with mobilizing members to invest in oxygen generating machines in the pond; raising fish according to VietGAP standards, market demand, the cooperative has developed a farming plan, selected suitable aquatic species to raise; supported members with breeds, capital, human resources, and product output. Thanks to that, 100% of the aquaculture area of the cooperative has generated profits. Currently, the cooperative has linked up with many traders and cooperatives in the province to consume commercial fish and fish fry with an output of about 10 tons of fish/month.
In addition to promoting the application of science and technology and linkage in aquaculture, every year, Tien Lu district maintains coordination with the province's specialized sectors to organize the transfer of aquaculture techniques, propagate people to choose fish breeds suitable for care conditions; support farmers to participate in programs and projects to encourage the development of high-quality aquaculture in a safe direction of the province; develop aquaculture of specialty products such as: Koi fish, soft-shell turtles, frogs... In the period of 2021-2024, the district coordinates with specialized sectors to support 10 aquaculture models to participate in the Project on aquaculture development of Hung Yen province in the period of 2020-2025, with an area of over 50 hectares; successfully convert over 150 hectares of ineffective rice land to annual crop cultivation combined with livestock and aquaculture...
Tien Lu district currently has over 620 hectares of aquaculture, of which over 50 hectares are for specialty aquaculture, concentrated in some communes such as Hai Thang, Hung Dao, Thien Phien... The average annual fish output of the district is 5 - 6 thousand tons. Intensive aquaculture models, aquaculture combined with fruit tree planting and livestock farming bring average profits of 200 million VND/year or more.
To maintain and promote the effectiveness of aquaculture areas, in the coming time, the district will continue to propagate to people to maintain environmental hygiene of aquaculture ponds, stock on schedule, diversify farming objects, especially fish breeds with high productivity and quality, favored by the market; continue to coordinate with specialized sectors to support the implementation of the province's Aquaculture Development Project...
